In the Heart of Hochelaga

Located on Sainte-Catherine Street East, at the corner of Pius IX, Les Affamés restaurant opened its doors in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, a neighbourhood in full transformation, where an increasing number of young business owners are venturing. The result of a happy combination of circumstances and a lot of work, this friendly establishment with a warm atmosphere and fresh, tasty menu is the pride of its owners, and very satisfied customers.

"I would describe what we serve as market cuisine, because we change our menu depending on what is in season, using local products. Everything is freshly prepared, but with strong international influences," says Guillaume Asselin, a self-taught cook and the executive chef and co-owner of Les Affamés. The young man gains inspiration for his menus from his travels and the flavours he discovers from around the world. His philosophy? Use as few processed ingredients as possible in a maximum number of dishes that are homemade from start to finish.

From Catering to a Restaurant

Accompanied by his two associates, Guillaume has turned what was originally the premises of their catering business into a restaurant frequented by a diverse and growing customer base. Having started as a brunch place, Les Affamés has expanded its menu and now serves lunch and dinner, in addition to continuing its catering services.

Regular patrons, families, young professionals and tourists have been dining there since it opened in 2012 to feast on a varied and daring cuisine at a price that's quite reasonable. "Our customers often tell us that they're really at home. They feel at home. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed in general," says Guillaume. Here, the service is friendly, but efficient. And there's even more energy at brunch time! "What counts for us, and I think our customers feel it, is to offer generous portions at a good price in a comfortable atmosphere."

Gourmet and Gastronomy

Among the local restaurant's most popular dishes, halfway between mom's cooking and haute cuisine, is the famous cheddar biskit, served with eggs, duck confit and maple bacon, the pulled pork and avocado huevos rancheros, and the gravlax dishes, a timeless Quebecois favourite. Beyond the menu, Les Affamés is known for its delicious cocktails, and at brunch time, you can have a non-alcholic mocktail, thanks to an imaginative selection of drinks.

Whether for a dinner with friends or brunch with the whole family, the reputation of Les Affamés is second to none. As their slogan proudly says, "Just because we have a discerning palate, doesn’t mean we don’t love to eat. Or vice versa."
