The Discovery of Argan Oil

On the market since 2007, Zorah Biocosmétiques pushes beauty boundaries with their fair trade, eco-friendly, organic products. Zorah boasts 44 cosmetic products in their beauty line, and promises more to come. Their cosmetics and makeups are currently sold online, at pop-up events, and scattered throughout health and drugstores across Quebec and Canada.

Co-founder Melissa Harvey discovered argan oil while working in Morocco in 2005. She returned to Montreal with a barrel of the oil, joined with co-founder Richard Morin, and began building the company that now flourishes locally. Argan oil acts as the structural base of all Zorah products.

Homegrown, Recycled Beauty

Working with co-ops around the world, Zorah Biocosmétiques has helped to create schools and fair trade workshops which produce the argan oil that their business relies on. “Through the whole process  from A to Z – we strive to have everything eco-friendly,” says Elise, Director of Communications at Zorah.

Certified Organic by Ecocert, Zorah pushes company values to intertwine with business. All packaging is made from recyclable or recycled material, company vehicles are eco-friendly, and only top-notch ingredients are used – regardless of profit. “The choices we make are more expensive for us, and more difficult,” adds Elise. “We decided that we want to beat the standards, but still be organic.”

This close-knit team strives to please customers, while promoting a sustainable environment. While the argan oil is produced in Morocco, the products are made in Quebec. The company values a sustainable future, and hopes that their locally created line of beauty cosmetics helps to establish, promote and maintain local jobs for the local population.

Organic, Eco-Friendly, Fair Trade and Chic

“People have a bad image of organic – they think that organic products aren’t as effective” says Elise. “But you can have effective products, be chic and glam, and still be organic.” Each use of a Zorah product promotes both individual and community well-being by using only natural ingredients and buying locally.

Zorah’s clients share an awareness of sustainable well-being. The bio cosmetic users want something that is not only good for them, but good for the environment and those involved in the production.

“It’s nice to see people make the change to something better for the world, and the environment,” Elise shares. Because all of Zorah’s products are eco-friendly and produced in fair trade environments, purchasing a single beauty product is much more than a personal gain. The butterfly effect trickles throughout the creation process, and is to the benefit of all of those involved.

Still growing, Zorah employees love to see increased popularity: “We see that people know us more now,” when participating in pop-up shops, seminars and conferences. Zorah doesn’t only sell cosmetics, but sells sustainable awareness of harmful ingredients that many people use daily. The increased awareness of the benefits of natural products encourages Zorah Biocosmétiques to push their products further.

Clients continue to return to their favourite Zorah products, amazed by the quality results. Zorah Biocosmétiques is proof that all-natural products provide tangible personal results, while promoting both local and global well-being.
