Traditional old-world charm fills the air at Continental Treat Fine Bistro on Whyte Avenue. Family-run since 1982 by the Borówka family, this welcoming spot consistently provides Edmonton’s diners with high quality traditional European fare and great service. “We really try to give great service,” says Sylvester Borówka, who co-owns Continental Treat Fine Bistro with his parents Ryszard and Helena Borówka. “Through the years we have created what I call loyalists. These are customers who prefer to come to our restaurant over anywhere else and now their children and even their grandchildren are coming in.”

Sylvester says the family has worked hard to build their reputation. They started with a humble seven-table restaurant, but in just five years were able to expand. “I’m proud of our restaurant,” says Sylvester. “We always want our guests to feel welcome and to enjoy their meals.”

I walked in on a Wednesday night around 9pm...and was the only person wearing jeans. Oops. The place looked high end from the inside and it's located in the heart of Edmonton, The beer list is expansive, The selection was great and included a number of beers I had not come across before. It can undoubtedly compared to sherbook liquor store.

Best Food In Edmonton That I ever had

For the appetizer I tried the Chicken Stroganoff stuffed with cheese, it was tasty, but nothing special to it. On the other hand, the Chicken, Shrimp and Rice was amazing.Cooked perfectly so that it does not feel like you are chewing a rubber band. All in all, the food is simply prepared but delicious, the waitstaff is amazing.

Excellent restaurant to meet with colleagues. Great food and a quiet atmosphere that allowed for conversation without competing with a lot of distracting background noise. Service was very good and food was amazing. Will definitely be back!

A birthday dinner for my wife, this was almost perfect. The chef who specializes in Filet Mignon was not there that night, so our "fav" entre was not available. We will try again, but phone first to confirm it's "on the menu."

The atmosphere in the restaurant was wonderful. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the food nearly as much as I had hoped to. Perhaps the problem may have been because I'm vegetarian. In terms of the entree options at dinner, there was really only the Funghi Spaetzle. When my husband compared it to his mom's beef stroganoff (something to which she adds canned Campbell's mushroom soup), it's really not a good sign. As for my husband's meal, he had chosen the Rainbow Trout. While he did say it was tasty, he also said it wasn't something to write home about. To be honest, when I saw it sitting on his plate, the lack of presentation made it look unappetizing. It's a slightly charred fish sitting on a big white plate with some potatoes, a small serving of cucumber salad, and some pickled veggies. We finished off the meal with a dessert (a dark chocolate dessert in the shape of a pyramid with creme brulee filling), I can't remember the name of it, but it was good. However, my husband and I still haven't decided if the dessert was worth the $15 price tag... A couple of other comments to the restaurateur: please consider warming the bread at the start of the meal. Also, I was surprised that warm meals were served on unwarmed plates. For a place with options that can run customers up to $50/plate, I'm expecting the kitchen staff to consider all the tiny details to justify the costs. As a vegetarian, I will likely not be coming back, but I know friends and family who did enjoy their meat dishes here on previous occasions. One final note on service: I would say it was OK. It's possible our server was new, but her lack of eye contact and lack of offers to provide refills made the service experience simply passable.

Our reservation was for 8-persons, however last minute literally hours before our confirmed reservation, I did a "modify" with the on line reservation, I received a call immediately by the restaurant concierge, explain last minute I had two additional guest to make it for a table for 10. SHe said no problem! The food was excellent as always as I can only recommend the pickle soup; schnitzel; and the goulash! 10/10 Best little secret in Edmonton.

Continental Treat is my usual dinner spot prior to attending a show at the Jubilee Theater. The food & service is consistently superb. I always start off with a cup of the "Dill Pickle" soup which has not been out done by any other establishment. It's usually followed by the consistently moist Trout entree with a request for the pan-fried potatoes as a substitute accompaniment.

Despite the fact that we advised the waitress two dinner salads were too acidic to eat, there was no compensation for the price paid; 2/3 of one salad was left uneaten and half the other. Escargot/mushroom appetizer extremely salty Would not rush back

Edmonton restaurants with delicious duck dishes

A Whyte Avenue staple and hotspot, the Continental Treat is an Edmonton favourite. This eastern European restaurant serves the best dill pickle soup in town, not to mention killer schnitzel, filet mignon with various sauces, stroganoff and, of course, slowly roasted duck legs with a pinot noir demi-glace accompanied by kopytka (potato dumplings) and hot red cabbage.

Gluten-free? Vegetarian? Meat-lover? If you have any of the aforementioned eaters in your dining party, look no further than Continental Fine Treat Bistro. It has one of the most extensive gluten-free menus that I’ve seen. They use many seasonal ingredients and their menu is fairly dynamic. Their dishes have French, German, and Eastern European influences. This place is always a good choice and never a dull moment!
