Great gigs: Summer music festivals in Calgary

Opera in the Village performances of Hansel and Gretel and Archiebaldo! begin at 1 pm and 7 pm, respectively, in the Chautauqua tent in the East Village. Calgary Opera artists perform the classic tale of Hansel and Gretel with a humorous twist, while Archiebaldo, performed by Cowtown Opera, is a humorous, romantic-revenge story. Between matinee and evening operas, from 2 pm to 7 pm, mini entertainment includes a Ukrainian cabaret, emerging local opera performers and the Foothills Brass Quintet – all free with online pre-registration.
