Shower tap will not turn off

Latest answer: Mon Sep 11

It sounds like the body of the shower tap has worn out. Over time, as a tap starts to leak, the water that is getting by can create a groove in the metal body of the tap. This groove can be ever so slight (thousands of an inch) but enough for water to squeeze by. To fix this, you will need to replace the whole shower tap.

Temp fluxes in the shower when toilet flushes

Latest answer: Thu Sep 7

The problem can be one of three things: Your water lines are full of corrosion, the water lines were under size when the house was built, the pressure to the house isn’t what it once was from the city supply. All of these problems can only be rectified by re-piping all of the waterlines in your home to the proper size.

Why is hot water coming out of the cold side as well as external faucets

Latest answer: Tue Aug 29

There are possibly three things that can cause the problem that you are having. The first you have identify a possible bypass valve open that should not be. To rectify this you need to follow the cold and hot water lines throughout the whole house to make sure they are flowing the way they were designed. The second possibility is similar to the first with a line that has been crossed. If this is a new problem and there is no chance of a new line being crossed you can eliminate that. The last is the most difficult to find and that is a cartridge in one of your faucets had become compromised and is leaking through to the other side. Usually this is not a huge amount of hot water and your cold at the faucet that is the culprit will be lukewarm.
