Meet the owner

Edmonton is a winter city. Love it or hate it, cold and snow are part of the culture, and residents needed a bar to fit that lifestyle. Enter the Rocky Mountain Icehouse.

This versatile venue has a cozy ski lodge feel, but it was built with moveable walls to open the space up for live music acts. “It enables us to close off half the room; we call that room the ski lodge,” says owner Susan Forsey. “If anyone wants a semi-private party they can book the ski lodge. But on a busy Friday and Saturday night we usually use the whole room.”

If you’re a wine lover looking for good deals and a dark bar, the Rocky Mountain Icehouse is the place to be. Modern and urban with a touch of rustic, alpine warmth, this restaurant/bar’s Happy Hour features deals on glasses of house red and white wines. But, if wine isn’t your flavour, there’s also a few refreshing drafts – including Alley Kat Scona Gold and Mainsqueeze – offered at a good price. On Tuesdays, you can catch Happy Hour between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. and even stay a little longer to hear some live music from The Icehouse Band.

It’s got an atmosphere that lends itself well to mingling but also boasts a few comfy corners perfect for enjoying dinner (and drinks) for one.

If you’re looking for a calm, settling atmosphere to crack out that research paper that’s due tomorrow morning, Rocky Mountain Icehouse is a good a place as any. There’s ample comfortable seating, free Wi-Fi and good food. Head on down during happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for discounted brews and wines because -let’s face it- you’re going to need something “extra” to get you through the struggle.
