“The first shop we opened in 2010 was only 800 sq. feet,” says Rhonda Cornelius, owner of Gelous Nails Esthetics and Hair. “Nicola and Renata, both nail technicians, and myself started the salon. They were integral in building the salon with me. Soon we grew to five, then six, and now 16 of us working in a 2200sq. foot salon.”

Rhonda had pursued other career paths, including demo-coordinating for a Canadian marketing company and studying to become a teacher, but she always felt drawn to the world of nails and eventually decided to put her nail techniques to good use. “I was going to school to teach, but being a single mother of twins and a student was hard,” Rhonda says. “So I decided to use what I know and start my own business instead.”
