A Farm in the City
Maplewood Farm is a great place to take the kids to have them learn about farm animals, where some of our food comes from and to just have a grand time petting and feeding some animals. With a daily early afternoon hand milking of an adorable Jersey cow, kids learn where the milk they drink comes from. At the goat petting zoo kid can get up close and personal with some incredibly patient goats. Of particular joy to our child are the rabbits. About a dozen big white bunnies can be visited and fed if you choose. An insider's tip for feeding the rabbits...bring dandelion greens. Carrots go uneaten but the rabbits will swarm your children for dandelion greens. They must need the roughage or something. Anyway, from there there are horses, more cows, pigs, ducks, donkeys, geese and all kinds of other farm animals to visit and learn about. Another great thing that Maplewood Farm offers are birthday parties. We held our child's party there a few years ago to rave reviews. With the ability to pack in your own food you can make it more like a picnic than the same old pizza or hot dogs. In addition, all the kids get pony rides that take them all around the grounds of the farm...this was a definite highlight for all the kids and parents involved. The next time you're looking for something fun and out of the ordinary to do with the kids take them to Maplewood Farm...they will have a ball!
