How does it feel to the touch? This is what knitters want to know before buying a skein of yarn and starting a project, explains Keryn Turner, owner of the knit shop Farm Fairy Fiber in Pitt Meadows. “It’s common for knitters to be tactile people,” Keryn says. “A lot of knitters don’t buy online because they want to be able to touch it before they buy it.”

Keryn rediscovered the joy of making things by hand in 2013 after she took over the knitting shop tucked away just off Ford Road in Pitt Meadows. She had knitted on and off since the age of 13, but after she bought the store, she realized how much she had missed it. Creating knitted items yourself gives you a sense of accomplishment. “If you make it yourself, you can make it however you like — you can change it to suit you,” Keryn says. “And if you make it yourself, a little piece of yourself goes into it, a bit of love.”
