Meet the owner

“When you come to my restaurant, you come to my home,” says Yianni Vasilantonakis, owner of The Greek Corner.

Born and raised in Athens, Yianni mastered his culinary and hospitality skills there before setting off to share the authentic tastes and culture of his home country around the world. A successful restaurateur since the 1980s, Yianni opened and operated the very first Greek restaurant in Bermuda, before his travels took him to the colder climates of Calgary. And since moving westwards in 2013, he and his wife, Kiki, have been delighting Surrey locals with The Greek Corner, serving up authentic Greek favourites such as souvlaki, saganaki and moussaka with famous Greek hospitality.

“I didn’t know anything about Vancouver before we came here,” says Yianni. “he location we took over, they called it a Greek restaurant, but it was actually continental because they also offered schnitzel and pasta. I don’t believe in mix-and-match—we completely restructured everything. If you want Greek, you come to us, if you want Italian, you go to an Italian place!”
