Named after Akbar the Great, one of India’s greatest 16th century Mughal emperors, Akbar’s Own Indian Restaurant has been delighting the taste buds of Vancouver locals and visitors alike since 1992 and has earned a solid reputation as one of the top Indian restaurants in the city.

Conveniently located just minutes away from the downtown core in the heart of Kitsilano, at Akbar's you will discover an extensive selection of dishes influenced by Mughal, Bengali, Persian and Kashmiri styles of cooking. Akbar’s specializes in cuisine from the mountainous regions bordered by India, Pakistan and Afghanistan and uses the ancient cooking methods handed down by traders and warriors who travelled on caravan routes to the East in the distant past.

Under the direction of restaurant proprietor and chef Amar Maroke, this family-owned and operated restaurant blends the finest herbs and spices together with fresh local ingredients to offer you the traditional Indian dishes that Amar’s family has been enjoying for generations. In addition to dine-in and take-out options, Akbar’s proudly offers catering services to residents and businesses across the Lower Mainland.

Mughlai and Kashmiri dishes from India's...

Mughlai and Kashmiri dishes from India's mountainous north-western corner. "Eggplant Bharta" is creamy barbecued eggplant with sauteed onions and tomatoes. Fish Curry, Lamb tikka, Tandoori Chicken and the vindaloo are also recommended.Spicing is mild in multitudinous pilaus, biryanis, tikkas, etc, but ingridients are top notch. Try it to belive it.
