Amherst Veterinary Hospital has been serving the Kitsilano, Point Grey and Dunbar area since 1987. We welcome new clients and patients and offer a broad variety of services. Call or email us for an appointment. As a new client of our practice, you can expect our full attention to your pets' needs. Our services will be provided with courtesy and respect. When you arrive for your appointment, you will be greeted by a our reception staff. Your pet will be weighed and you will be seated in an examination room. You will see a veterinarian who will take a complete medical history, examine your pet and plan further diagnostics or treatment as necessary. Taking a pet to the veterinarian can be a stressful time, but Amherst Veterinary Hospital seeks to make each visit pleasant and welcoming. Upon entering the spotless lobby, friendly staff greet both owner and furry loved one, putting everyone at ease. Exam rooms are comfortable and cozy and treats abound to keep pets in cheerful spirits. Furry family members are lavished with attention and owners leave knowing their pet was given top-notch care. And the concern for a pet’s wellbeing doesn’t end with the office visit. Veterinarians and staff members follow up with friendly phone calls to ensure the patient is on the mend.

Dr. Grant Cumberbirch and his wife Armida opened Amherst Veterinary Hospital in 1987, several years after Grant returned from veterinary school in Saskatoon. They built their business over time, ensuring that staff hires were carefully considered and building a brand they could be proud of. “Bricks and mortar can be bought,” says Grant, “the business is the people you put in it.” That dedication to choosing the right employees has paid off and is highlighted daily in the routine operation of the hospital. “All of our staff share an empathy and a passion for animals, regardless of what position they have,” says Grant.
