The stretch of Fraser Street between 23rd and 24th is becoming a foodie haven, with Graze, Earnest Ice Cream and Bâtard Boulangerie & Cafe Moderne all in a row. Bâtard is a joint project of Chris Brown from Rise Artisan Bakery and Ecco Il Pane fame, and Bruno and Sally Born and their daughter Elsie of Finest at Sea.

It's both a bakery/épicierie and café set in a completely renovated 100-year-old building. Chris describes Bâtard Boulangerie & Cafe Moderne as “a French country-style bakery and café with a Vancouver artisan flavour.”

The family-friendly spot is run by Chris Brown from Rise Artisan Bakery and Bruno and Sally Born, who own Finest at Sea. It’s a beautiful space with plenty of highchairs and a wooden rocking elephant – which once belonged to the owners’ daughter – for kids to play on.
