Not many restaurants open after 10pm on a Thursday for a late night bite along Robson. The service was average as there was a slight delay to order but the beer came prompt which kept us occupied until our grilled calamari and pork cheeks arrived along with the yakisoba. Pretty good in taste overall. The yakisoba was udon based which was not what I was expecting, and not much meat or vegetable but pretty good.

Best Restaurant in Vancouver

This is easily my favorite restaurant in Vancouver. If you like Japanese cuisine this place is unbelievable. It has a lively ambiance with orders being called across the restaurant. The service is fantastic ... and most importantly the food is divine! I LOVE the Tuna and Salmon Tataki ... the beef carpaccio is incredible. Tako Yaki is delicious ... honestly everything on the menu is just amazing. Downside? If you dont make a reservation or go later in the evening the line up and wait is LONG ... so be prepared ... but it is worth the wait!

Where to drink refreshing tropical cocktails in Vancouver

Where to drink refreshing tropical cocktails in Vancouver

Vancouver’s original izakaya, Guu continues to attract nightly crowds thanks to its energetic atmosphere and modern Japanese fusion dishes. In the summer months, limited edition frozen cocktails make an appearance on the menu to further liven up the mood. These seasonal refreshers change annually but are always guaranteed to loosen you up (if you don’t mind a little brain freeze). Previous offerings have included a frozen sake bellini with peach puree, frozen Moscow mules served in traditional copper mugs, and frozen beer cocktails, which pair cold beer with mango juice for a refreshing alternative to your usual craft brew.

Japanese restaurants in Vancouver that offer more than sushi

Japanese restaurants in Vancouver that offer more than sushi

Guu Garlic was the very first izakaya I visited in Vancouver. Guu has a few locations but the Robson Street outpost offers the best experience in my opinion. Expect screaming servers, the exchange of Japanese throughout the room and the long list of small plates that are best enjoyed sharing style. It stays true to its name, which means you’ll likely walk away with a garlicky breath (something to note if you’re heading here on a date).

Beautiful patios for sunset viewing in Vancouver's West End

Beautiful patios for sunset viewing in Vancouver's West End

The second Guu to open in Vancouver has one of the best patios West End. The always-popular Izakaya-style spot offers a solid beer and a crowd-pleasing fusion menu, making it a great place to enjoy a sunny afternoon lunch with friends or co-workers. Do some people watching on Robson as you taste one of the finely crafted sake-infused cocktails and devour some delectable dishes like the Guuu’d Curry or tuna tataki.
