A bad experience,...

A bad experience, very poor management skills of the business manager. We went for dinner on Friday night to Stepho's at Davie St. We paid the bill and were handed the bags with the leftover food inside of closed containers. When removing the containers from the paper bags, I found only rice and salad, mousaka was not inside I called the restaurant, I explained the situation and asked to speak to the manager. John (who identified himself as the manager), he tells me that he can not do anything.

Amazing Food

I had been recommended to go to Stephos for the longest time and each time we tried having food the line up was long so we decided to go back later. A friend of mine recommended me to go between 1-5pm so I didn’t have to wait in the line up. I must say that I had never had such great service and delicious Souvlaki in Vancouver. We tried the Lamp Chops, the Calamari Dinner, Humus and the Lamp Souvlaki amongst the 4 of us. The price is great and the food really fantastic. I recommend this place to everyone and trust me it’s worth a wait in the line up to try this place.

Insane Line Up, But Worth the Wait!

I've been going to Stepho's for the last 7 years, and it's never disappointed me. You won't find Greek food this good at this price. The portions are huge, and the quality doesn't suffer because of it. If you're planning on going for Dinner, make sure you go by 5 PM, even earlier on the weekends or on a sunny day, otherwise you're looking at lining up for at least an hour, maybe more. You might be lucky if there's only 2 of you, but anything more than 4, you're looking at a loooong wait. Eating in is great, but my recommendation if you don't make it on time is to just order take out. It's just as good, and it's ready in 10 minutes. Maybe one thing that's not so great, is because of the line up, they pack you in there. You think the line outside is long? Once you get inside, you're going to have at least 15 people ahead of you, and you're gonna be sitting in the middle of the restaurant and salivating over people eating around you. Things you definitely have to try: Roast Lamb, Garlic Sauce (Stepho's Creation), and the Garlic Prawns!

Over-Rated,...cuisine...

Why the line-up? I don't get it...if it's cheap ya want, than yes, I get it...because you get what you pay for,,,,Bland, flavourless and pre-cooked "Greek" ( and I use the term Greek loosely) fare. Under-done neutral pototoes, no lemon,Evo, nothing. Bland,Bland,Bland....all food was terribly underseasoned and either overcooked or undercooked......service was apolegetic but unattentive.....friendly but very rushed. I did however enjoy the burnt pita bread...seriously the Tsziki (?) dip was very good. No opa here! The table next to us, left all of their plates almost full,we weren't the only ones! What a shame. Happy Noshin' Brianm.

I have no idea why people line up here every day ......

Stepho's is for many years a very popular restaurant for Greek food in Vancouver. People line up here every day again for up to 30 minutes just to eat there. However, it seems like that the popularity and the resulting good business makes their staff less caring about their patrons. It happened now to us for the 3rd time that we got ignored by 4 different staff for more than 10 minutes. The restaurant was not too busy; several tables were empty, however, nobody even acknowledged us. If they would need the business they would certainly have a different level of service. Lucky us, there are alternatives for Greek food in this city.

The best Mediterranean eats in Vancouver

The best Mediterranean eats in Vancouver

Stepho's Souvlaki has some of the best chicken and lamb souvlaki Vancouver has to offer. The meat is expertly seasoned and cooked to your liking. You get heaping portions for your buck, and the garlic spread that comes with your pita is house-made, delicious and never overpowering. You’ll love the mussels and calamari here, too. Be sure to try their signature tiroboukes, or cheese balls, before you leave – they're sure to become a favourite!

Delicious calamari dishes in Vancouver

Delicious calamari dishes in Vancouver

We can’t highlight a calamari list without mention of world-famous (ok, Vancouver-famous) Stepho’s. Hugely popular and known for its ever-present lineup down Davie Street, Stepho’s is classic Canadian-Greek cuisine, specializing in souvlaki, moussaka and of course calamari. Thickly breaded and fried to a dark golden brown, you’ll want a plate of this classic Greek appetizer at this classic Greek restaurant as a reward for your line-up patience.
