Disappointing

I attended with a group of friends on a Friday night and had the French onion soup to start. The first few bites held some promise, as the soup was generously topped with melted cheese, but overall, it had no taste. It wasn't piping hot, either. I ordered the prime rib as my main. Unfortunately, this was not overly hot and it wasn't seasoned. I had the strawberry shortcake for dessert, which was fine, not the best I've had though. Our server was very friendly and patient with our group as we mulled over the menu. As a fairly new resident of York Region, I'm interested in supporting local restaurants and have always done this anywhere else I've lived. I'm sorry to say that this meal didn't live up to the hype that I've heard about it.

GREAT EXPERIENCE

I had a wonderful time visiting Baldwins for the first time. The food is very good and the service is great! I read several of the comments written and realize they must be of a personal nature....not from someone writing a mature restaurant review. I heard of the recent changes and change is good!! I definitely will be returning!!!

If you are allergic to onions, don't visit. I asked politely at least three times, no onions in my meal. My husband even said it. My meal arrived complete with onions. They gave me complimentary wine and offered me dessert (which I never eat) so I went home hungry.

Great Place

Honest review from a long time local

Well, this is a more a review on the changes taken place at Baldwins over the past few months, since the new owners have come in. I am a long time patron of Baldwins and along with my wife we used to visit the bar for drinks and dinner 3 times per week. The atmosphere was excellent and Thursday night bands added another element to the place. However everything that was great about the place has now changed, and in my and many of the regulars in the bar, not for the better. The Staff. There used to be a fine balance of staff, working there and most importantly was the legendary Declan. The best bartender you will find! The new owners did a huge boo boo when they wanted to make a change a replace him. Now there are only girls behind the bar. The girls are nice and everything, but every bar needs a BARTENDER! Many of the regulars have stopped going anymore. The General Manager. Jimmy! A great guy, but because of the new changes is permanently in the background and never to be seen. Now all we see on the management front is the new co owner Liz. Really nice girl, but basically has changed everything in the bar, trying to make a statement, but unfortunately it has backfired. The food has deteriorated from it's usually high standard and the place has no atmosphere anymore and becuase of this the food is far overpriced for what they are serving. $50 for a steak and frozen Lobster, is not going to appeal to most people. So in my and many of the regulars opinions, bring back Jimmy and Declan and sort the food out. Otherwise Baldwins will be just a faded and sad memory. Ross. Listen to your customers and you will see the truth.

i thought Baldwins had a great, quiet atmosphere. i went because i was told they had the best caesar salad; unfortunately i was quite disappointed and found it to be a little bland. the tenderloin medallions were absolutely amazing and the service was good. i was a little turned off at the fact that there was dried garlic stuck all over my menu...next time please ensure everything is CLEAN prior to putting on the table.

Love most of it

Great Atmosphere, love Declan best service from him! Jimmy is aware and very accomadating. Beware of Liz all you get is attitude, wrong line of business, we will now phone ahead if she is working we will go elsewhere.

Nice sweet potato fries!

I really like Baldwins. Wish the patio was on the sunny side, but oh well. Really good food here, and good beer selection. Atmosphere is decent as well, either side is good.

I will not return

Our food and service were sub par. The manager didn't care about our comments. I should have checked this website first to see the very low average score. Servers were drinking at the bar, and manager smelled of alcohol. What kind of place is this?

My wife seemed to think the steak was alright...

My wife seemed to think the steak was alright, but I waited 40 minutes to find out they messed up my order. My options were for my wife's steak to get stone cold/dried out or watch her eat while waiting another 30 minutes for something that wasn't all that great. Something more than "I'm sorry" would have been nice. I continue to spread the word. Oh, why we went there? They sold coupons door to door to my wife, marking the great discount. The "coupon" price was higher than any savings we made and I made no effort to return to use the second offer. I've had worse service before, but not in this decade.

What a horrible and embarrassing experience...

What a horrible and embarrassing experience! My wife found a hair in her food! Needless to say we called a waiter over (not our waiter - he was no where to be found once he took our order!). I consider myself a frequent diner and have dined all over the world from LA to France - and never have I seen a restaurant handle a situation like this so terribly! In restaurant terms this would be the equivalent of a 'code red' - I would have expected our waiter to come over immediately and apologize - again, he was no where to be found until it came time to deliver the bill. I would also have expected the chef and/or the manager of the restaurant to come over to apologize and offer some sort of 'peace offering'. The manager made a feable attempt at dealing with the situation by coming over and asking my wife if she was enjoying her replacement entre - he was very aloof about the whole the whole incident and didn't even identify himself as the manager - he seemed insulted when I asked who he was! The evening was ultimately a disappointment and an embarrassment for us - we will never go back! There are a lot of top rate dining establishments out there folks - spend your money wisely - avoid Baldwins! PS Hair comes free with the meal - but they will ask you to pay for the entre.

We went for a special occasion and I had called...

We went for a special occasion and I had called ahead to organize some flowers and a cake for my wife. They did nothing and didn't even acknowledge that they forgot about it. No apology either. I would not return as the food is sub-par, and the service not even equal to that of a fast food joint.

We asked to have a seat on the patio. Once seated...

We asked to have a seat on the patio. Once seated the server did not return for over 15 minutes. We needed another beverage only the server did not return until the food was delivered. After another 20 minutes without seeing the server the bill was dropped off without any comment or asking if we would like something else. We refused to pay the bill until our lunch plates had been removed. Needless to say we were there for another 20 minutes. BRUTAL! I was very upset because I had recommended that we head to Baldwins as it used to be great.

I was surprised to see any negaitivity on this...

I was surprised to see any negaitivity on this website at all about Baldwin's. My family has been coming here for years and it has gotten better over time. Food and service always top notch with great weekend entertainment! P.S when a manager or server suggest an item, be it food or wine,it is exactly that,a suggestion not a free sample as per the other comment that i read here,just my two cents worth,but seriously everything has always been great,keep it up!
