My cousin and I have this big idea to test out all the local restaurants in the small communities that we used to, or currently call home. A once-a-week summer project. A delicious project. A 'I am NOT wearing a bathing suit this summer' project. This week it took us to the Iron Horse. This particular place has many memories for us as Fitzy's. We had not been since it was the Iron Horse--and it was a beautiful sunny day so we thought we'd venture out to see what they had to offer. A fabulously relaxing lunch hour is what! It was dim when we walked in--as to be expected when leaving the blazing sun--and it was pretty quiet. There was one other party of two in for lunch....since it was such a nice day, we decided to head out to the patio. Yes, we knew we'd be contending with transport trucks, honking motorists and possibly the smell of fuel (which never became an issue). The inside was clean and organized well...lots of space and a few nooks and crannies if you wanted a more private, intimate meal. Our server brought us little cushions for our seats, handed us menus, gave us the daily specials and headed back inside with our drink orders. This gave us plenty of time to decide what we wanted to eat. I opted for the bacon burger with fries, and gravy. A very filling and scrumptious lunch for $8. It was a burger and fries--nothing to complain about, but nothing to write home about, either. What really got us was the setting (and the rest of the menu items that we didn't try....mmmm). My cousin and I had a great time under the patio umbrella discussing our life events and enjoying our lunches (she had a roast beef sammie with au-jus; she let me have a bite...I probably could have had the entire thing--except it was giant!)--the server came to check on us when our meal arrived, and let us be until she noticed our drinks getting low. She topped us off and politely left us to our conversation. Before we left a couple of other small parties joined us on the patio and didn't seem to mind the traffic either. If you don't like loud noises, don't sit on the patio during the day--I can just imagine how nice it is at night, though--and I will most definitely return to the Iron Horse Bar & Grill to sit on their patio at 7pm and enjoy good food, great service and a very summer atmosphere. Oh yes--and if you're interested in live might want to check out the website.....I haven't been, yet, but plan on visiting on a Sunday for their live entertainment and leaving relaxed, happy and full!
