This is the place I always take people to when they say the like Italian food. The food is amazing, I'm a huge fan of the Penne ala Vodka. I really like the house salad and the ceaser is good too. The desserts are wonderful, I recommend the cake, a slice is more than enough for two. The service is great, there when you need them.
My wife and I have made it one of our favorite hobbies to dine out locally (Toronto). We have also travelled quite a bit through Italy and various other places abroad. Our first time at Paul's was a few months back in March. My wife ordered the wild mushroom rissotto and I had the chefs pasta special, Pappardelle noodles in a provimi veal ragout. This was and still is by far the best tasting ragout I have ever eaten. Tender chunks of meat in a rich and thick red wine plum tomato reduction with just the right amount of mirpoix and fresh herbs. My wife was extremely inpressed with the rissotto. She is a bit of a rissotto junkie. To start we had char grilled calamari that came with a olive,caper and plum tomato salsa. It was nice and tender. The contrast of the sweet tomato and herbs with the saltiness of the olives and capers paired nicely with the squid. This time around I ordered the Paul's special spaghetti with meat and my wife had the rice again. She was very happy to find that it was just as good as the last time she had it. We both know that consistency in dining establishments can be hard to come by. The Paul's special spaghetti was excellent. We had a piece of the home made vanilla cake for dessert. I would go in just for dessert sometime just to have the cake again. Our first time around we dined inside. The dining room was warm and cozy. The second time we dined on the patio an d we didn't want to leave. We were told by some other patrons sitting near by that they have live jazz music some nights. We found the service to be friendly and attentive. They could work on their wine list and maybe focus on more of an Italian selection. Overall great spot and we will continue to go back as long as they stay consitent.
Paul's was recommended to us by family members who had been going for years. Delicious food at great prices! The house salad with the homemade dressing is so fresh. I ALWAYS get the Rigatone w/Spinach....has a creamy pesto sauce with goat cheese and toasted pine nuts....it is to die for and I get this everytime we go...never disappointed. Hubby gets spaghetti with meatballs...also delicious...meatballs are so tasty and fresh. We have never been disappointed with the food. Though I will say the service is sometimes a little slow.... Only once when my mother went she complained about the food being a bit salty...when she complained to the server they explained it was a different cook that night and not the regular cook...they offered to take her meal back...she said no, as she never sends a meal back(for good reasons). She was disappointed that they never offered a complimentary dessert , coffee or an even a discount off of the meal...something to get you back in the door. She hasn't been back since. Very quaint, romantic setting...quiet, and somewhere to enjoy a glass of wine w/good food...patio is nice in the summer.
We went to Paul's Spaghetti for the first time on Valentines Day of 2008 and we were extremely happy. I had the chef's pasta special and my fiance had the Paul's favorite pasta. We decided to come back into the city and visit Paul's again this valentines day. I was shocked when I asked the server for the Chefs specials and was told that there wasn't any for the evening. So my husband ordered Paul's favorite pasta and I ordered seafood pasta. Our dishes were lacking flavour and the sauce was so runny it looked like pasta soup. (If there is such a thing) We don't know what happened here but it was nothing like our first visit. Very disapointed.
A hidden gem in East York Paul's is a local neighborhood restaurant with class, not formal enough to require a jacket and tie, simple enough to bring the kids, but nice enough that it feels like a dinner out and not just food. Reservations help, as the place fills up quickly around 7 pm. The fare is filling and delicious, although it's virtually all pasta. My wife and I have been several times and always had good food - the gorgonzola pasta and smoked salmon linguine are my favorites, while my wife enjoys their garlic and oil and pesto offerings. My parents also enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Note that on holidays such as New Year's Eve and Valentine's Day the restaurant offers set menus that can be quite expensive, and reservations should be made well in advance. I prefer to go on ordinary Fridays. Also, Paul's is closed on Mondays, something I always seem to forget.
The worse service I've had in my life...and I've visited a lot of small restaurants....
we went in for a nice dinner the food was not what we expected the meat balls tasted so (not fresh) they were awful, my husband thought the soup was just put together with a bag of frozen veggies and a can of tomato paste yuck!!

the food was no better then a Betty Crocker recipe the service very s-l-o-w the price?? for pasta...out of this world! very expensive...could eat at the greek restaurants for much cheaper and get a variety of appetizers along with great tasting food sorry I'm not cheap far from actualy just honest:)
This restaurant came recommended to us by other families/neighbours. Our meals were excellent and portions were a perfect size (some places focus to much on quantity vs. quality) Ordered the penne with gorgonzola cream sauce (recommended by server). We have 2 young children and staff were very accommodating...brought their plates of spaghetti very quickly while we were enjoying a drink. My only disappointment was the Caesar salad, which was a bit dry, but the entrees and desserts fully made up for that. Would definately visit again with kids.
I get cravings for this place. Everything from the bread, salad, to the entree is amazing. The veal parmigiana is bigger than your head. Plus I find it so cozy and romantic.
its great good portions friendly staff and cake to die for. my partner has tried almost everything and the only thing he wasn't sold on was the chicken marsala.
Fabulous find in East York. Atmosphere is ambient, I'm addicted to the linguine with mushrooms and grilled shrimp appetizer. Don't even look at the menu any more. Strongly recommend a reservation so as not to be disappointed.
I am a regular here. My parents love it, my brother loves it, my friends love it. It's intimate, quaint and satisfying. Eating here is an overall great experience. The food it always great and you are never rushed. Most of all, it's affordable. I would recommend it to anyone!
My wife and I love this place, recommended by a friend it is one of those places you are more likely to pass then stop at. Nice patio and is often busy....one annoying point is the are closed on Mondays, and when you have a craving that sucks. The Spaghetti with meat sause my favorite. Meat with not to much red sauce so you really know you are eating a meat sauce, big chunks of garlic as well, pasta is alway perfectly cooked. Have had the lasagna, the Penne with Chicken (rose sauce), Gnocchi.... regularly will call ahead for take away, approx time to prepare is 20min so call ahead.
we are regulars here love the food and service. could do without the calamari but everything else is aces and I encourage you to try their home -made choc and vanilla cakes. they're to die for
The waiter was delightful and very patient and cute to boot.The patio wasn't crowded, food was fast and very hot when it arrived , pleasantly so.I am recommending this restaurant to my daughter and her crowd of friends for sure.
I had the Penne A la Vodka, it's one of my favorites from their menu. I love the house salad and the bread is great, butter could be room temp.
