Select Bakery

Specializing in homemade pastries that taste like they were baked right in your mother’s kitchen, Select Bakery has been providing the East York area of Toronto with mouth-watering baked goods for years.

Founded in 2002 by brother and sister duo Kosta and Areti Katsamakis, Select Bakery specializes in traditional Greek and Mediterranean pastries and baked goods. “Our father was in the food industry forever; he owned a bakery for almost 40 years,” explains Kosta. “We always planned on running it, but he eventually sold it. Areti and I loved the idea of having our own bakery, so we went for it.”

With goods baked daily using only the freshest ingredients, Select Bakery has developed quite a large base of regular customers in the area. “We have people that come in here weekly — and sometimes, even daily,” says Kosta. “Our chocolate covered baklava is definitely one of our most popular products. We have a tough time making enough for everyone!”

Beyond their selection of baked goods, Select Bakery also offers a full deli of fresh-cooked foods and specialty Greek cooking products. “From Greek cheeses and meats to cooking oils, coffee and honey, we’ve got an incredible selection of Greek food items that are really tough to find in Canada,” explains Kosta.
