horrible i use to really like this rest, the last time i was in i had taken company from out of town i was bragging how good the fish was only to have the biggest disappointment ever we couldn't eat our dinner and they refuse to exchange it. My brother literally rung out at least 1/4 cup of oil from the fish we showed them still nothing. there was absolutely no supervision in the kitchen a bunch of kids having fun. that fish had to be reheated many times to absorb that much oil.

Often the line up...

Often the line ups are an hour long. The wait is always worth it. Never had a bad experience.

I have had their fish and chips in 1980 and again in 1991 and 2007 i dont understand why the place is so busy to continuously serve greasy and under cooked fish

Best Fish & Chips

My dad used to take me to the old location for a tray of fries after my swimming lessons on Saturdays, and always let me have the largest of the two that came. I was 6. I take my kids to the "new" location. We all look forward to the meal. Always fish & chips. Always great. If you don't want grease, you don't order fish and chips - THEY ARE DEEP FRIED! If you want white table clothes don't eat here, this is a take away place with some seating! And perfectly appropriate for what it was designed. Hope my kids get the chance to take their kids here too!

Stop hatin'

I love this place!! Anyone ever told you... don't judge a book by its cover?! I have been going here since before I was born. My Grandparents had their 2nd date here. We rented out the back room for their 55th wedding anniversary and it was awesome! If they catered I would have them cater my wedding! No doubt in my mind this place is a wonderful place to eat! I don't know why people are saying its dirty... its not dirty its just plain OLD, so things have an aged look to them. If you don't like 50's nostalgia go to Toronto and leave Hutches alone! It makes me really upset to read all the bad reviews... although bad reviews wont change business they are always lined up out the door and the place is always packed. Its even busy in the winter. Everyone in my family loves the fries! I always get the chicken burger and yes you have to wait longer for it but I would rather have my chicken fully cooked thank you! The rest of my family has the sportsman and they always come back for more. I have never had food that I would send back to the cook and I have done that lots of times at classy joints.

THIS PLACE IS WAY OVERRATED

I have been here a few times and was not terribly impressed, but my son wanted to try it so off we went. The fish was so greasy, you could almost feel your arteries clogging as it was digested. Chips were only ok, not great but not anything to complain about. The things that bother me about this place are the slovenly conditions and the extremely slow service. The staff treat you as if you should feel privileged to be eating there. I guess their location kinda guarantees them ongoing business, but not mine.
