King Kutz

Don’t ask Rowaid Hanna, owner of King Kutz, a barbershop specializing in hair designs and fades, to ever express himself artistically on paper. He can’t. But hand him detailing clippers and shears and he can transform any head of hair into a creative masterpiece featuring intricate designs spanning floral patterns to sunbursts and spades. Born in Iraq, but trained in Damascus as a barber since the age of 14, Rowaid brought his experience to Canada in 2009. After enrolling in a Toronto college to receive certification in not only hair cutting for men and women, but also in the more fanciful styles he specializes in, he opened King Kutz in July of 2013.

“Hair is my love. I love cutting both regular hair and hair designs. I love it,” Rowaid says before explaining that he has shorn the locks of customers as young as one, to clients in their mid-30s. While the majority of Rowaid’s customers are men who queue outside his door on especially busy days for the opportunity to have their crowns clipped, Rowaid and his associates also offer women’s cuts, and facials, shaves, threading and outlines.
