Papagayo Restaurant welcomes you to their establishment. They are open after-hours all week and are accessible by public transit and car. Come visit them in a surrounding recognized as exciting.
The previous visit was good. Food really good but slow service.
I went yesterday with a friend and ended up waiting over 40 minutes for the appetizer to show before we decided to leave. Another couple showed up 15 minutes or so after us and we're eating before us. We had ordered the same app. Definitely miscommunication between the server and kitchen. If you've got a lot of time to spare, the food is good.
Very authentic Mexican food and atmosphere. My husband and I have been several times, and have always been happy with the food - the quantity as well as the quality. When our daughter and son-in-law came to visit, we took them there, and they were also impressed. I have read the other reviews and am left wondering as we had plenty to eat, with no shortage of meat. The waitress even mentioned to my son-in-law that his dinner would take a little longer to prepare.
Food was good, but not much meat in the burrito, and it was small, compared to what I am used to. The Lady at the front Desk was also the server, and did a great job all by herself.
I have to say i was quite disappointed as i had heard really good things and had gone years ago and it was very good. We ordered the combination platters which surprisingly came very quick and were warm at best which would lead me to believe it was pre-prepared and warmed up, that was they way it tasted too. I expected fresh food. Also the Chorizo sausage along with everything else lacked a lot of spice and flavour. However you HAVE to get the deep fried ice cream which is just fantastic.
the first time we tried to come to this place, it was closed on a sunday evening. they are now opening on sunday evenings to please people like me i guess. we tried again a month or so later on a tuesday. the atmosphere is very quaint and authentic. the service personable and polite, not too quick but not slow. the chips were great but i'd like to get a little more heat out of the salsa verde. the guacamole was fresh and she served us a little portion saying that they were making up another batch which she delivered shortly after. she recommended the chile rellenos for my vegetarian choice and brought me two stuffed peppers as my entree because the chef felt the peppers too small (which they weren't). the pepper was decadent but the beans and rice could have been better seasoned. would have liked to see a larger portion of sour cream. i am quite well-versed in mexican dining and i neither praise nor censure Papagayo. if it was closer to home, i may visit again but the trip into hamilton is never pleasant. oh and my partner enjoyed 2 halves to his dinner burrito/chimichanga.
Terrific mexican food, bright cheery decor, friendly service. We were impressed with the numerous daily specials they had available. Would recommend papagayo and look forward to returning.

What a way to impress someone!
I enjoyed the lil nachos and delicious home-made green salsa while we went over the Menu and sipped our Cervesas.
Started with probably the best Jalepeno Poppers ever! They are very lightly breaded, as to not take away from the jalapeno itself, fried perfectly and stuffed with oozy cheesy goodness!
Entrees included more cheesy enchiladas and a trio platter of enchilada, chimichanga & burrito. They all tasted fantastic, great portion size and cooked to perfection; not too greasy.
Definately recommend for a date or business lunch/dinner. Just be sure to bring some beano ;)
i drive from Brampton to go to this place - amazing mexican - not tex mex stuff - but real mexican. SO GOOD - if your craving mexican or a nice change from the ordinary - you need to go here. For some reason - when we tried to order margeritas by the pitcher they said they never sell them like that - near a university? - anyways, with a little coaxing, we got our pitchers...wonderful!!!
btw - this is in a nicer area of Hamilton - your not going to the ghetto to find this place. Very easy to find and usually ample street parking.

Service was prompt and friendly. Margarita soup was incredible! Very unique flavours. You've never had jalapeno poppers like this before! Fresh, large and delicious without being too hot. Fish, tilapia, was cooked to perfection, and the mashed potatoes on the side were fabulous. Our margaritas were replenished quickly by our server, who was working all by herself on a busy weekday night. The Chile Colorado may be the best beef dish I've had that wasn't steak or curry. Compliments to the chef.
We visit this restaurant regularly. We have tried many restaurants in the Hamilton-Burlington area. Papagayo is our favourite, bar none. The soups are always a culinary adventure, and consistently awesome. My husband says that the fresh, scrumptiously lightly-breaded calamari is "the best". Our main pick always goes back to the Chiles Rellenos. It looks amazing,and is only surpassed by it's big flavour, with just a nice bit of heat on the after-bite. The ambience at Papagayo is bright and cheerful. The staff always extends a genuine warm welcome. As always, we look forward to our next visit.
I have been to this restaurant MANY times, and I've loved the food and service until recently. The past two times, my friend ordered vegetarian enchiladas. Both times, it came with chicken.
The first time, when re-served again, we found bits of chicken again! The second time, the food was not re-served until half an hour later, without any apologies or discounts.
I was very dissapointed and embarassed by the service of the restaurant. Had my friend been allergic or very religuous, this evening could have gone downhill.
Once is understandable, but twice is unacceptable.

I have been to this place a few times and it is normally good but i got weirded out this one time cause i got a lot of white hairs in my steak. I picked them off and finished the food but i am sure most people would have freaked out. Previous times i went there it was good and i didn't notice any hairs so i would give them another shot. I hope they start using hair nets or shave their heads.
i had dinner with a group of friends i haven't seen for awhile - we had a great time, food was delicious - followed their recommendations and we all loved it
The food tasted 'off'. The rice and beans recooked and old. The caesar salad was quite good and garlicky! The margaritas tasted like really cheap powdered lime koolaid mix. Service was absolutely horrible and both my own and my guests stomach have been off since.

Got some take-out for lunch, Beef Burrito (Came with black beans, rice and tortilla chips, with a pinch of Pico de Gallo on top). This turned out to be pretty good. Ingredients are very fresh and all the flavors in the dish were very well balanced (I find many mexican restaurants overdo it with the cilantro). The dish was a little expensive (about $10, 25% more than other places I've been) however I'm certainly not disappointed. I'll be coming back for sure.
