I like The Ship

I go here fairly regularly because this place does it up right. It's not a huge place and gets packed fairly easily, so there have been times when I simply haven't gotten in, but you snooze you lose. It is in an old victorian style home, taking up both floors. Downstairs seats a few tables and the main bar, while upstairs hosts a more casual atmosphere of games, chairs, etc....like you are in someones home. Decor is eclectic and funky, provides a nice touch to the visit. Service is always good to above average, the staff are trained well, know their beers well enough, and are always smiling. I've eaten here too many times to mention, but the wings are great, as is the cajun catfish sandwich. The wings are a great portion and the sauces are excellent. The catfish sandwich is spicy, savoury, very flavourful, well portioned, and well priced. I like that they have Boneshaker on tap on a regular basis. In fact, they only serve craft beer which speaks to the quality of the establishment. Clientele is a mix of somewhat obnoxious college hipsters and hippies that think they are re-living Woodstock for some reason, but I don't have to like them to like the place. Keep up the great work! Great place!

Mm, tasty seafood

I was really impressed with the two side dishes I got - "a small bowl o' clam chowder" and homemade tortilla chips with homemade salsa. The chowder was the best I've ever had - I find a lot of chowders to be too "fishy" tasty, but this was just pure white clam meat. So good. And the homemade tortilla chips and salsa were some of the best I've ever had! I'd go back just for those. A good selection of local beers on tap (I had Mill St's Ginger Beer, which I hadn't even heard of - tastes similar to other Mill Street beers). Great atmosphere! Super cozy pub-like main floor, with a couches and board games set-up on the second floor. I'll definitely be back!

Awesome burgers!

This is a great little joint, although it can be noisy, and they never seem to have the meal/food we want when we go in. Each visit they haven't had crab, mushrooms, or alligator. SOmething yummy that we wanted! However, nice service, great food. Super fries. Can be loud!

Amazing food, great place!

I only live a short hop and a skip from this place, yet yesterday was the first time I ever went. I didn't regret going over and can't wait to go again! For my appetizer, I had the popcorn alligator. I asked where it came from, and the gator came from Lousiana. The coating and meat were nicely cooked, and I enjoyed it a great deal, especially when it was served with cajun mayo. For the main course, I had the fish tacos. They had a lot of bite and lettuce, sour creme and salsa was on the side so I could put as little or as much I wanted on my tacos. The food was amazing, and I loved it. Not too spicy but not to bland either, it was just right. My friend ordered the large fish and chips and it was enormous. I don't know what seasoning they put in the fries, but they were tasty! We had a great time and the bill despite all the food and drink we had didn't rake up as high as I thought it would. I loved going to this place, and I plan to go again. I'm eager to try other items on the menu, and there are some exotic ones there too... like escargo for example. I was too chicken to try this time, but maybe next time! Highly recommended!

GREAT Seafood !!!! Great selection !!!

Wow what a hidden gem ! If you love seafood You'll love this place. Sat on the patio and was served immediately with a menu and a smile. I decided on the popcorn alligator (YES it's real gator) The bite sized pieces were moist and crispy coated. They went really well with my beer. For an entree' I selected "The works" Grilled shrimps, scallops, and steamed snow crab legs It was fantastic. THE SHIP is surrounded with many pubs. I was okay with the laughter from other patios.

Had the "Halibut on a Bun" and it was scrumptious! A beautifully battered, and perfectly deep fried piece of fish that sat on a fresh bun along with some lettuce and tomato. Served with fries, and accompanied by a pint of Robert Simpson Ale...this was a stellar meal that's doomed to be repeated. Next time around i'm going for the gator strips!
