Better than expected.

My husband and I made a trip to Kemptville just to try this spot for lunch. When we arrived, the place was nearly empty, which made me worry a bit. My expectations sunk even lower when the menus were delivered to the table, and we were informed that we could only order from one quarter of it, as the other dishes were served only at supper time. I felt a little deflated, as I wasn't really in the mood for a sandwich, or a wrap. So, I asked what the Rubber Boots Buffet offering of the day was, and again, I was disappointed when told the entree was sloppy joes. I do not like sloppy joes and never have! My husband popped into the washroom and came out to tell me about all the flies, and I truly had a moment where I thought it best that we just get up and leave. And then I noticed a sign on the table saying water was 25 cents a glass for the well water, and we'd already sipped ours. So, there was no way to make a graceful exit. Thankfully, the server was friendly and attentive, and after watching other people's plates go by, we decided to try our luck and order. Let me just say that we were very glad we did. The same woman tended to our table, and she was lovely, courteous and very professional. When our food arrived, it looked and smelled wonderful. We were hungry, and I was happy to dig in and upon my first mouthful, I was gobsmacked. The food was delicious! We hardly spoke throughout our meal because we just wanted to eat; it was really that good! My husband ordered a microbrew to go along with his burger, and it was very fresh and hoppy. The potato wedges were phenomenal. I don't know how they make them, but they were soft and savory and just divine. The garlic-tomato? dipping sauce that is served alongside was to die for. My beef, mushroom, onion and pepper sandwich was so good, I didn't leave a shred on the plate. The only thing I didn't love was the coleslaw and that is because I prefer creamy coleslaw. Also, I think I tasted dill, and I'm not a fan. The diners next to us ordered ice cream and fruit and yogurt parfaits, and they both seemed to enjoy them, however, we opted not to stay for dessert. Perhaps next time. Really, a great spot and well worth the drive from Ottawa.

Getting Out of the Rain

On our way from Kingston to Ottawa, we stopped for a late meal on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The wonderful food & atmosphere were enhanced by some great "live" music, and some impressive "open mic" contributions from local artists. It was our first visit, but certainly won't be our last! Thanks to a most welcoming staff!

Great food, top notch service

Been to Kemptville twice, both times for the rubberboots buffet. Different mix of foods each time (never had tempe(i think) before and it was good!).Juicy flavourful burger. Fantastic music and art venue. Service is attentive and prompt without being in your face. Worth the drive from Ottawa!

Never Been Disappointed

My wife and I have eaten at the branch restaurant on numerous occasions and neither of us has ever been disappointed in anything that we have eaten there. We try something that we have never tried before when possible and have enjoyed everything we have tried. The staff is always extremely friendly and helpful. It makes it a real pleasure to dine there. They often have live music in the evenings so we tend to go when they have our favourite type of music featured.

Is the real chef on vacation?

After reading the reviews below I was enthousiastic about driving to Kemptville. Mussels are supposed to be plump, juicy, and sweet (take it from someone who grew up next to the sea). We got shriveled up and flavourless. If you are going to claim to be a good restaurant and serve sea food, it MUST be fresh. I had a burger. All I could taste was burnt bun and overly charred meat. I wish I could have tasted the toppings and meat more but the charring prevented any of these flavours to show through so I didn't finish. Two of us ordered the fruit crumble. I was expecting fresh fruit flavours to pop at this time of the year, instead the fruit was lost in a sea of oat mush, butter and buttery caramel-like liquid. No fruit highlights for us. On the plus side, the servers were very nice, the patio has lots of character, and the art gallery approach to decorating the place is a nice touch.

Customer 1st

I needed to take my clients somehwere different where we could unwind and discuss next steps. Kemptville is a short drive from Ottawa and 30 minutes in the car with my clients to myself was perfect. The location and setting delivered. A relaxed yet upscale feel, welcoming service and attention from Mr Kelaher the restaurant manager. the service received by Amy our server and Bruce the head cheff where exemplary. Now lets review the food, I just had to order meat on a stick, sounded to simple and as a meat and potatoes man there was no going, back, a perfect blend of herb and spices met expectations. Having spent 18 years in Alberta I ordered the Kerr Farm's Striploin. I can honestly say it was the best cut of beef I had devoured in quite some time. Thank you all for making the diner and customer event a memorable one. I'll be back

My wife and I just stopped for a quick lunch over the weekend. My BLT was excellent - which was surprising since it is such a run of the mill item. My Wife's rice and beans dish was surprisingly good. The Micro-brew beer from Carleton place was also very yummy. We will be back for sure when ever we are in Kemptville again.

From start to finish it was excellent. As soon as we arrived we were warmly greeted and 2 slices of delicious molasses bread were delivered to our table. When the waitress came to take our order she brought 2 bite sized portobello and brie appetizers...a nice touch and sample of the delicious food to come. Our waitress Amy was very pleasant, friendly and helpful with suggestions about the wine and the degree of "hotness" for the shrimp dish. The appetizer was aptly described as "A Big Bowl of Mussels" It was a generous serving and plenty for 2 to share. The salad was fresh and crunchy and if I were to have any negative comment it would be that there could have been a bit more salad dressing. I'm sure they would have provided more if I had asked. The shrimp & vegetables were fabulous...just the right degree of spiciness and extra hot sauce on the side for dipping. The shared dessert was yummy. The wine was excellent. Top that all off with the bluegrass sounds of Leavin' Train and one couldn't ask for a better evening...all that within 15 km of home!

We are avid fans of the branch, for their delicious organic fare, their clear committment and dedication to Kemptville and the surrounding areas, their lively and warm atmosphere and their ability to connect community through music art and food. We've been to the branch multiple times with our family, and it has become a tradition to drop in for the down-home comfort foods of the Rubber Boots Buffet on Sundays. Amongst the best restaurants in the Ottawa Valley (and certainly the best in the Leeds/Grenville district), the branch is well, well worth the drive from Ottawa, Kingston and environs.

Rising out of the shadow of the former Amanda's Slip, this establishment always exudes a warm and friendly charm equally inviting local patrons and tourists, alike, to come in to enjoy the atmosphere. Often, on Sundays, there are musical artists who add more flair by presenting their music for all to hear and view. The food is always most palatable and the staff always make you feel welcome. I would highly recommend this establishment.
