Generous portions at a good price!

I frequently drop by Grecos and the restaurant has never failed to deliver fantastic Greek food served in generous portions and at a great price; normally around $10 - $15 for lunches and around $20 for dinner. Service can be a bit slow at times and you may find yourself having to wave the waiters down to get their attention, but I have always been greeted warmly. For their appetizers, I highly recommend their Saganaki (since nothing speaks of deliciousness quite like a freshly prepared, pan-fried, flambéd cheese). For the extremely ravenous or for those in a large group, the Grecos Pikilia is a perfect way to sample a large variety of different appetizers in small portions. A word of warning - the platter can be rather filling so plan ahead to leave room for the mains and the desserts. Of the many times I've visited Grecos, I had the chance to try different items from both the lunch and dinner menus. The piece of resistance, for me, is their off-the-menu Lamb Shank special, served with a side of greek potatoes and veggies, if memory serves me correctly. If you're a lamb-lover, get this dish! The meat is fall-off the bone tender, perfectly marinated, and cooked to perfection. This dish alone can convince me to keep coming back to the restaurant. For those wanting something alternative to the lamb, their souvlaki and shishkebab are also fantastic and they are always very filling...especially when it comes to the large portions of their sides. All in all, good service and good atmoshphere since the restaurant can be a bit too dark in terms of lighting but the decors are pretty standard. The food, on the other hand, is absolutely fantastic. Be prepared to make reservations for dinners though; like most Kingston restaurants in downtown, Grecos is relatively small and the place gets filled up fast.

Decent Greek Restaurant

Was able to get reservations last minute on a Saturday night. Quite surprising. Place was pretty busy too. For appetizer had the Grecos Pikilia. This is enough for 4 people. It was all right, but felt that I should have gone for Saganaki instead. Would have been more tasty. One thing I have to say about this restaurant is that the portion size is very good. After eating the appetizer, for my main course, I could only eat half of it. Which was fine since I had something for lunch the next day. I was boring and just had the single portion of souvlaki. I found the food overall to be pretty good but not spectacular. What I DID find annoying is that getting a greek salad is an upgrade (extra 2.50) from a garden salad in terms of the salad that comes with the souvlaki. It's a Greek restaurant for God's sake, they should just match the dish with a Greek salad and not charge extra for it. Cheesy. The service was pretty good in that the waiter was attentive and came back to refresh our beverages including my water on a frequent basis. Also brought us a second basket of bread since it went with our appetizer better. The only issue I begrudge him for is not including my sauce for the souvlaki when he prepared (or perhaps it was the kitchen staff) my doggy bag. I was disappointed with my chocolate banana cake. I am a big dessert fan and if I leave 1/3 of the dessert behind uneaten- it is NOT a good sign. I could be wrong but it did not appear the prices were written on the dessert menu. My mother in law ended up paying but it would have been wrong if that dessert was in the $7 range. I don't like places that don't list the prices. It seems wrong to me. There were other items on the dessert menu that looked pretty good, but not sure if I should risk it next time to be disappointed again.... Might consider going back but likely would check out other Greek restaurants in town before rushing back to this one.

The best

The best Greek food in Kingston. Have been going for years, take guests for special occasions and just for dinning out. Make reservations as is always packed and you will be disappointed if turned away.

Simply the best

Best cuisine served with care at a 4 star level. Wines are very good at reasonable mark ups. One of the city's secret haunts. But make a reservation.......always at night.

take-out queen

i must be honest, i dont actually eat in at this spot. Not because its horrible inside, i just dont love it. The food however is top drawer. the souvlaki is tender, the lemon potatoes are to die for. A definite must try
