I would eat here everyday if I could

I love going to the Old Bridge Inn(OBI) all summer long. I love the way its a little tucked away restaurant where you can enjoy the view and breeze from the patio, take a walk after dinner to the locks, and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere with amazing food. As an appetizer, I usually have one of the salads cause the dressings are soo good. Not to sweet, not to thick, just right and the greens are never swimming in dressing either, which is something that I prefer over soggy salad. Most recently, I had the broiled trout on quinoa. Oh my god! So light, and fresh. This chef really knows how to cook fish. It was nice and moist, evenly cooked with a fresh fruit salsa on top. I loved it. I think that the trout was actually local, and the server said that it was caught just the day before. So Fresh!!! And it was accompanied with quinoa, which is a nice alternative to the plain, standard rice you get with rice in so many other restaurants. And of course, the signature vegetables! I don't know any other restaurant that gives you so many vegetables, all with individual flavours and spices. On top of it all, they carry some of Ontario's best V.Q.A. wines, as well as a variety of international vintages. I enjoyed some of the Inniskillen Pinot Grigio, and it went so well with the fish. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to get out of the city and have a great, relaxed dining experience.

Was it a BAD night or NOT?

Was it yet another off day for this Inn or is the norm from here on in? This is the second time we have been this year and the second time we were severely disappointed. The Inn is quaint and charming in a rustic way but since last year it sure has gone down hill and the lack of repairs such as lawns and weeds is really taking over. In the two hours we were there we were the only ones eating. That should have said it all.. we arrive to find that there is a very short wine list and mostly Ontario. The beer is plain and simple so nothing for me which started me off in a mood. Like my glass of wine at night and a good one not that slapped together kind. My caesar salad came as two stalks of romaine lettuce on my plate drizzled with dressing and topped with a sprinkle of romano cheese, oh yes, two crouton slices on the side. I pushed that aside! Even with my limited cooking abilites could pull that one off. Dinner came at last. I asked for medium steak but on the pink side and got brown all the way through. The outer sides were rock hard from over cooking. No grill marks just flat burnt. I struggled to about one quarter of it and after a lot of groaning my husband took a bit to test and he too thought it was a big disappointment. The veg was made up of several types and the best part of the meal. After dinner we ordered coffee and it came luke warm and bitter. Pushed that aside and callled it a night. So all in all since this is the second time we have had this type of meal there in a row I think we will call it a day and find a new haunt. I do have to say that we eat out every night of the week, 52 weeks of the year, and I am so very disappointed in this Inn. It's close to home and close to the lock where we dock the boat and provides a great outdoor patio for lunchs but money is too hard to come by to let this happen again. Since I'm one of those that would rather walk away, I decided to just review instead and let you try it out for your self, but be ware.

Fab lunch!

A soup to remember... Fantastic meal on a lovely patio. Great, friendly service. My only disappointment was the coffee--it would have been an excellent brew but made with well-water which really affected the flavour. Spring water coffee and it would have been 10s all around!

A Gem in the Kawarthas

I almost hate to tell anyone about this in case it gets too popular but the owners/chef deserve praise for their beautifully prepared food and wonderful ambience. The service is always good (I've eaten here many times) and you never feel rushed. The soups are exquisite. The mains are always satisfying and unique, with beautifully done salads. The chef is an artist and you feel that with his food. This is where we go to celebrate special occasions for our family.
