We've eaten here ...

We've eaten here a few times. It's hit and miss. Sometimes the quality is superb and sometimes not so great. I'd say if you're looking for some sushi in London it's still worth a try.

Just a little bac...

Just a little background, I've been to the majority of sushi restaurants in London, ON and have had a pleasant experience with the majority of them. Wish I could say the same for Wonder Sushi but Wonder Sushi is by far the worst out of all of them. I'll tell you why. The food at Wonder is decent, kind of average. Definetly not the worst, but if you want average sushi, it will do the trick. The service is absolutely TERRIBLE. Waitresses do not know how to communicate with their customers, order

Sloooooow!

Actually decide to write a review while I waited, and waited, and waited! Was there for over 90 minutes, and only ordered twice. The first time they forgot a dish, and the second, I got one I didn't order - and it was some type of whole fish. Not my forte. Not the greatest food, but I have had worse. Not going to bother going back. I didn't get a 10 percent gratuity charge.

Not the WORST sushi in London... seems to vary though

I have been to Wonder Sushi 4 or 5 times now for the AYCE each time expecting, or at least hoping, for a better experience than the last time... I thought I was never returning here but after trying Conception Sushi today I can say Wonder sushi is SOOO much better!! And we will more than likely return. It sometimes smells really strongly of fish when you walk in... Not a very appetizing smell at all. It makes you kinda question the fish... Also, the rolls seem to vary in taste and quality which obviously they shouldn't! The fish is sometimes so skimpy, it's just a paper thin piece of fish on the top. We have ordered the unagi and softshell crab and both showed up over cooked, dried out and chewy/crunchy. SO GROSS! Also, the last time we went we got there shortly after they opened at 11 and they were vacuuming the restaurant (couldn't that have been done the night before or earlier on??). When I go out for a meal I expect it to be a pleasant, relaxing experience. This continued for the next 20 mins or so while another 3 tables came in. Finally they got the point and turned the vacuum off. The wait staff speaks almost no english and they throw whatever you have ordered on the table and scurry off without saying anything. A lot of the time they 'forget' rolls that never show up.

DO NOT EAT HERE

I have been to Wonder Sushi too many times (both the North and the East location). Absolutely brutal service. We ordered 22 salmon sushi pieces and they brought out 22 crab sushi pieces. Typical Wonder Sushi bringing you the wrong order, throwing it on your table and then running away before you get the chance to tell them. Them came back 10 minutes later as if they were avoiding our table and refused to take it back and correct their mistake. They told us that it's our fault for waiting too long. Then they made up some rule saying that since we waited 10 minutes to tell them, it is ours and we have to eat it or they'll charge us!!!?? She even went and go our order sheet out of the garbage and showed it to us and said "See?" and we all look at her and said, "See! it says salmon NOT crab!!" Unbelievable service. We had to hardest time trying to tell them what was wrong because none of them speak english. The staff sleep and eat at tables next to you while they're supposed to be serving you, which explains the 2.5 hour dinner... AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COST.

Not the same...

This used to be our favorite restaurant. We returned for a visit after moving away three years ago. The restaurant has expanded, the deco is slightly better. Wish I could say the same for the service and the food. Defiantly not as good as if used to be. The slices of sashimi are small. The menu has had many items removed. Most of the more expensive fishes are not orderable, such as Eel sushi, tuna sashimi and the red snapper is actually Tilapia. Overall maybe some things are left in the past.

I love me some sushi... however, the service is terrible, they often forget orders, and sometimes it takes far too long for your order to arrive. But, if you like sushi, this place does not disappoint

I love this place!

My friends and I have been going to Wonder Sushi for a year and a half now and probably go once every two weeks. I also have many work lunches here with large groups of people. The first thing I want to address here are all the complaints about the service. The servers here are focused and here to do what they are supposed to so - serve. Not be your best friend. Are they the most out-going and friendly bunch? No. If you are looking for a server who treats you like royalty, don't expect that from a lot of Asian restaurants, that's just not the culture. I have never waited more than 10 minutes for anything. Do they often forget items? Yes, quite often. Does this ruin my experience? No. I just remind them and they bring it. Come on people. Just laugh about it and not get too sensitive and get our feelings hurt. I don't come to this place for the service, I come for the food. For the amount of whining on these reviews about the service, clearly most people dont care because the place is always packed at all hours of the day. If you enjoy affordable, delicious food served by fast staff then you'll like this restaurant. The food is fantastic! Favourites include deep fried pork don, crispy spicy salmon rolls, and the veal spare ribs. The sushi does sometimes fall apart but I will take freshly made sushi that doesn't always hold form over perfect-looking pre-made refigerated sushi any day. If you go there with an open mind and without a giant ego you'll love this place. When I go out, its the food and the friends that make the night memorable, not the fact that my server didn't smile at me and make me feel important. Definitely try it out. The amount of food is insane for the price you pay and I ALWAYS leave satisfied.

WONDER why I went?

My sister and I went for lunch on Saturday. This was our very favorite sushi restaurant in London. We sat down and we were given an order form. We proceeded to fill this out and handed it to the waitress. We only ordered 2 items each. We only received one item. She came back and asked if we wanted our bill? I told her we just got here and asked for the missed item and another order form. To make a long story short, it seemed each time we ordered, we never received at least one of our items. Very, very unfriendly staff. Heard the waitress talk to the table next to me and she was extremely rude to her as well. The second hand-roll we received - tempura shrimp was ice-cold. Can't believe how this place went downhill since the reno's. A 10% Service Charge is added to your bill, so they take the tip of front...it's a good thing, because the service was dreadful. Oh yeah..and we ordered our Ice-Cream 4 times and never did get it. Told the cashier on the way out - didn't care...WOW. Extremely disappointed.

Great First Experience

My husband, brother, sister-in-law, and I were looking for a place to go for dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday. We wanted sushi, and my brother had heard good things about the food at Wonder Sushi on Wonderland, so we made reservations for this past Saturday night. We got there a few minutes early and were seated within a few minutes. I must admit, the first round of food came rather slowly, and we ended up having to order a second sheet worth of items. But by the time we were nearing the end of that round, we were way too full. Knowing their practice of charging for items ordered but not eaten, we knew we had to finish all the food on our plates or be charged extra. We managed to do that, and then my husband and I each had ice cream, too. We had no bad experiences with the servers. The food was great (I recommend any of the "crispy spicy" rolls. The tempura mushrooms were great and so were the spring rolls. Some of the rolls tended to be a little loose, but that's what you get with made-to-order, at-room temperature sushi. The miso soup was kind of salty. I'd like to know if it's "real" miso as opposed to a mix.

Will Never Return

Since our favourite sushi place in London closed down (Taika on Oxford), we decided to give a renovated branch of Wonder Sushi a try. The first time we ate there a few weeks ago, the food was OK, but we were quickly reminded why we stopped going there -- because of the rude service. When we tried to go there for dinner again, they were very busy on Sat. night and there were quite a few people waiting to sit down. We waited and waited just to ask how long of a wait time to expect. When the hostess finally showed up, she just told one group of customers to follow her. They filled out a sheet with their order while waiting and we thought it was a great idea! When the hostess came back, we asked her how long to expect to wait and then asked her if we could get a menu to go over our options (we thought it could actually save time once we sat down at the table and handed our selection in, seeing how busy they were). She basically scolded us in broken English and told us not to touch those sheets -- that we are not allowed to fill them out until we sit down! We honestly thought we were on candid camera because of how she was talking to us. My husband is a lawyer and I am also a professional with an advanced degree. We felt like little children... We politely told her that she should not be treating customers in this manner and walked away. We'll definitely not be going back...

One Place Wonder

We went here for dinner one week. When we got in, it was like we were impeding on a gathering. Everyone was standing around and it took a few minutes to be seated. The tables were still dirty from the lunch before. When we sat down and filled in our sushi sheet, it took about 15 min for the girl to come back (and you only have 1.5 hours to eat so that's awhile) and again, she made it seem like we were inconviencing her. No one was smiling, most people working were standing around. The sushi wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing either. The tempura had too much deep fried chunks on it. It took too long to get, and dinner was $25 a person. We also didn't get some of the things we had ordered, like our ice cream. Our bill was well over $50, and they charge you a 10% gratuity for their service. i won't be back, only because if you're going to charge for your service, I expect it to be good. The servers just weren't the best bunch to be around on a cheery weekend evening.

I love this place. The sushi is delicious. Service is hit or miss in terms of friendliness, but they are always efficient. The restaurant has recently been renovated and is now quite nice inside.

Disappointing

I've been to several all-you-can-eat sushi places. I moved to London recently and kept hearing about Wonder Sushi so I went to check it out. We went on a Friday around 6:30 and waited about 5 minutes for a table. When we sat down we were given order sheets. We filled out our order sheets and handed them, then realized that nobody had asked us if we would like drinks. We had to flag down one of the waiters twice because the first time she only brought half the drinks. The food was all over the place. The crab sashimi and sushi were simply excellent, as was the California Roll. I was disappointed to see there was no Dynamite Roll, but opted for the "Shrimp Tempura" roll instead. It was literally just shrimp and avocado, and was incredibly bland tasting. I had Chicken Teriyaki Don and it was absolutely disgusting. The chicken appeared to have been carelessly torn off and there was one piece with a chunk of fatty skin. In the end, the bill had a 10% automatic service charge added to it, and the total with tax came to about $27, which is expensive since I've been to other better all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants with better food, service and selection for around $23-$24 after tax. If this is London's best option for all you can eat sushi, that's a shame.

Best all-you-can-eat sushi in London

My wife and I are regulars at the Highbury location (less lineups than the wonderland location). It actually has a surprisingly large selection of good quality items for an all-you-can eat place. And not just sushi, also other items like tasty beef tenderloin and interesting cooked seafood items. Obviously the it is not as high quality as the pay-per-item places but you pay for what you get. And you get a lot. The only all-you-can eat sushi place that I've been to that allows you to order an unlimited quanity of tuna sushi. My wife's general plan is to go to Wondersushi if we are quite hungry and in the mood for sushi, and good to a better quality place (specifically Ichiban), if we are less hungry. That arrangement works quite well for us.
