Meet the owner

When your abiding passion intersects with what people are seeking in the marketplace, good things naturally unfold. That’s been the trajectory behind the opening of Milton’s first vegan restaurant, The Green Eatery, tucked a few steps off Main Street at 20 Martin.

Maria Garrigan wears multiple hats at this vegan emporium as owner, raw food chef and educator, introducing locals to a dine-in, take-out and delivery restaurant unique to the community. The Green Eatery serves non-GMO organic food that’s free of gluten, processed sugars, dairy and animal products, along with snacks and whole supplements. It’s quite a mouthful, but Maria is out to prove that it’s also a delicious one.

In April 2014, Maria took possession of the Milton café, making it the first franchise location. The café has attracted what Maria describes as “regulars,” including those who already embrace the health benefits of eating raw foods, those who have been advised by health professionals to alter their food choices, and those curious about taking their taste buds on a new adventure. In April 2014, Maria took possession of the Milton café, making it the first franchise location.

Maria is savvy to the fact that taste does indeed trump all. “Better to try to sell people on the taste of the food first before trying to sell them on the health benefits. If they taste it and it’s good and then find out it’s good for them, it’s a done deal.”

Nice food but very poor customer service from the new owner. She was not honouring the gift card purchased. The new owner should have respected and listened to customers first. I am glad that we have this restaurant in Milton with healthy food. I wish the new owner just care about customers more.
