Absolutly disaster! Stay away from this please!

Incredible Food

I first went to this restaurant when I was maybe 11 or 12 (I am 17 now). Needless to say, I have gone back many times a year since. It is such a treat to go to this restaurant, as I don`t get to have Chinese food often, and to me, eating it here is the best thing to do. I am always amazed at how good the food tastes, and at the speed in which it is brought to our table. Usually I am finishing up my appetizer when the main course is brought out. I am going back in a few days and can hardly wait. Keep it up, Szechuan Gourmet!

We travel across the city from Ajax to this Family run restaurant, never have been let down,. have been doing this for the past 14 years, most of our friends and rels. have started to recommend, and the list goes on.. when we have Visitors from Australia, Germany, Asia, UK,. we make it a point to take them there. The Flavour and make of the food is excellant, Out Kids love the Food, Not spicy, "just Right" so this Szechuan place has become our signature spot. way to go,, The Family touch and the service is just simple and fine.

I recently ordered for delivery as we often do. Granted the delivery time is unbelievable as if it were being prepared in your driveway and then they're at your door. Not sure how they do this. Anyway, the driver had a big attitude problem that more than made up for his size. He complained about the distance he had to travel to deliver within their radius. I might add that a couple off weeks prior I had given the same driver a $10.00 tip which I felt was extremely generous. On this trip I didn't feel that generous, particularly in light of his whining about the delivery location. I gave him a $1.00 tip at which point he flipped out asking 'why only a buck?' I told him that I had given him a $10.00 tip previously (which I know for certain) to which he scoffed 'not me'. By this point I had enough of him and this restaurant. Upon contacting the owner on this issue, I was met with nothing more than lip service. No attempt to remedy anything. Basically they could care less about customer service. BEWARE. I know I WILL NOT order from them again.

AWFUL SERVICE

I had my food delivered and they forgot an order of noodles and sat and argued with me telling me that I didn't even order it when it was on my bill. They told me they couldn't do anything for me and when they delivered everything there sauce from one of the dishes spilt all over the place. Horrible experience. We usually order from this place twice a week, never again!

I love the food at this restaurant. We've been regulars there almost every week for the past 1/2 year. Unfortunately, they don't seem to care about their clientelle other than to move them in and out of there as quickly as they can. Went on a Saturday night this time to avoid the crush we normally experience on a Sunday evening and found it even busier than Sunday! We were in the restaurant no more than 5 minutes before we ordered, and within another 2 minutes the food was at our table (not sure how they did that). We had barely worked our way through half the meal (another 10 or 15 minutes or so) before they started coming over to ask us if we were done (the plates were still 1/2 full). They then came by another 10 times over the next 15 minutes to ask us if we were finished. We kept telling them "no, we're still eating" but to no avail. They continue to harange us. Then people standing in line at the door began glaring at us, as if we'd been sitting there for 2 hours (by that point we'd been in the restaurant no more than 25 minutes). We glared back. The people next to us had reserved a table and had also reserved our table right next to them - but the rest of their party hadn't arrived yet so there was no need to rush us!! The wait staff brought us our bill and started cleaning off the plates - we were still not finished. We paid our bill because we were so angry at that point that we just wanted to get the hell out of the restaurant. We'd now been inside the restaurant for no more than 35 minutes tops. The bill came to $60.00 with tax and tip. Getting out of our seats and out the door was another matter - Szeuchuan Gourmet jams their tables together so closely that we had to ask the family next to us to stand up so we could get out. Then, to add insult to injury, as we walked out the door a woman asked me if I'd "had enough time to digest my dinner?" meaning - why are you keeping us waiting here in line while you sit there at the table? I was incensed. Not only were the wait staff pushy and difficult, the clientelle were disgustingly rude. I ignored the comment and mentioned how rushed the meal had been, to let the woman know we'd only been inside a short time. I don't think we will return to Szechuan Gourmet, despite loving their food and having been regular weekly customers for many months since moving to their area in the summertime. Our friend, who was with us, has been eating there for many years, as have her parents and many friends and family members. We will tell them of our ordeal and recommend that they not eat at Szeuchuan Gourmet until they either find a larger space that can accomodate the correct number of diners without rushing people, or they deal with the dinner rush in a more diplomatic manner.

Great neighborhood chinese food - wonderful service - Spadina style food without having to go downtown - absolutely love the place

One of the best chinese restaurants in Toronto...

One of the best chinese restaurants in Toronto. This place is best known for their CRISPY GINGER CHICKEN. Everytime I go, you'll see them putting at least one order on every table. Their house noodles is amazing. Perhaps the only negative thing about this restaurant is that they are closed on Mondays so keep that in mind. If you can't make it, try delivery. They're delivery service is ridiculously fast, I'm not sure how they do it.

I'm suprised it has not had any reviews on this site, maybe it's because the regulars don't want anyone else to find out! You cannot find a better Chinese Restaurant in this city. Their food, portions, prices & service are all exceptional. Great Hunan Dishes. Busy every night (except monday or tuesday when they're closed - can't remember which one)
