This is considered the best restaurant in Oakville, so my husband and I decided to celebrate our 2'nd anniversary there. Neither one of us had been to this restaurant before. My husband had pre-booked a table and advised the restaurant that we were celebrating and ,unbeknownst to me, ordered a special dessert. When we arrived we were whisked to the Bistro section (although we didn't realize it at the time). I was wearing an expensive coat, which no one offered to take ( I had to ask someone to please take my coat). I was seated with my back to the restaurant portion and didn't realize it was behind me. My husband was a little distracted because I had had a migraine but insisted that we did not want to miss the evening, The bistro was very loud and not the romantic atmosphere we were planning. I didn't say anything to my husband because I wasn't sure if he intended us to be in that section and I didn't want to appear complaining. While the food and service was good. My husband and I had to yell to be heard because we were right beside the piano and there was also a loud party table. When the waiter asked if I would like dessert, I ordered something. My husband became angry and stated that he had pre-ordered a dessert and they should check their reservation. At that point I asked my husband if we were supposed to be in the bistro section and he then realized we hadn't been seated correctly. We advised the hostess and while she did discount some of the bill I really felt our evening did not live up to expectation. Having dined in some of the best restaurants in Toronto and Oakville, I would have to say that Jonathans really does not live up to the hype.
This is what everyone calls the best restaurant in Oakville???? We went with another couple (it was their idea) and were horribly dissapointed. I found the atmosphere stuffy and uncomfortable. I felt like I couldn't even laugh out loud without being glared at by staff and other patrons. This is definitely "old oavkille". The food was very expensive and although there was no problems with the food itself it was just ok and definitely not worth the money. The service was incredibly slow and our server seemed indifferent to our requests and certainly did not go out of his way to make sure we were happy. We will not be back and will stay in Bronte.
Made a reservation and went there a few weeks ago. Servers were not attentive. One of the managers just stood around looking over everyone while they dined, but doing nothing. No one asked how the meal was. Food was not great. I had a souffle. It was just a large dark brown blob with very tough lobster. There wasn't even a piece of parsley to brighten up the plate. The pasta was also mediocre. This was a total waste of money and a somewhat snobby place. We are in an upper income bracket and dine out a lot. Will not return.
This is the best restaurant in Oakville bar none and one of the best in the GTA. The food is fabulous, the atmosphere is wonderfully cozy and the service is extremely knowledgeable. They also go out of their way to please when something goes wrong. One time when my steak was overdone, they not only cooked a new steak, my dinner was free as was everyone's dessert.
Had another lovely evening at Jonathan's. The service, food and ambience were fantastic. Highly recommended.
I've been a regular customer at Jonathan's for the last ten odd years. And in the last 3 years, I've seen the quality of food and service only increase. The wait staff are very friendly and quick to make a joke. They always make myself and my wife feel very welcome, in an industry where genuine personality is hard to come by. And the food speaks for itself. It's honest good food, where a descent portion of foie gras or an adventurious sweetbread appetizer tickles my fancy. The kitchen always keeps me on my toes, I don't know what I will order next! This is a place I look forward to dining with today and in the future!
food was great but the service was lacking in many ways. First my server decided to have a glass of wine at the table next to me while i waited 25 min for a menu. the food took another 30 min to arive but was worth the wait. The chef Kathy Impressed me with her ability to produce amazing food with such -- wait staff to support her. the wine list was overly populated with mainly french wines ( how bout some good local wines ). and when i got the bill $250 iwas shocked!!
THIS PLACE ROCKS .. everything about the bar is in place .. the servers were friendly and attentive, the food was excellent, and the wine list was so extensive .. I had to get the Greek to order for me.. I really think the chef has hit a home run with the last menu.. I can't wait to see what he has in store for the next one .. and the kitchen staff!! everytime I saw that tall, skinny portuegeuse cook walk thru the bar I could tell he had been born for the industry!!!!!!!!
I read the previous review and felt compelled to say that all my dinners have been wonderful experiences at Jonathans. I am a regular at Jonathans. Without getting wordy, here is why I believe Jonathans is Oakville''s Finest: *Consistent quality of freshly prepared and innovative dishes. *Private Dining Rooms for both small & large groups. *Intimate tables for special occasions. *A very busy, yet fun and casual Bistro area. *Friendly and attentive service. *One of the most extensive wine lists anywhere in the area. Jonathans is busy everytime I go there. It is the place where the ''who''s who'' and corporate leaders in Oakville dine. It is an impressive place worth visiting. One other thing to mention: JMP''s review mentioned they ate ''Prime Rib'' at Jonathans...I don''t think so...Jonathans has never served prime rib, I think JMP got the wrong restaurant. MW''s review mentioned they had a ''Fixed Menu'', Ithink that they reviewed the wrong restaurant as well.
For one of the busiest nights of the year, Valentine's Day, there was only one waiter for nine tables in our area. As a result the level of service was lacking. We overheard other dinners complaining about the lack of service as well. The food was good, but my 'medium' steak was bright red inside and as the waiter was never around I could not have it cooked correctly. We were disapointed.
We dined on the casual side of the restaurant...Jonathans Souffle & Seafood Bar. It was very busy, yet the service was attentive, and the food was excellent. A most notable wine list. A great experience once again.
Always our favourite restaurant in town. On this particular occasion we sat in the dining room and very much enjoyed their new menu. For a casual evening out we often eat in the Souffle Bar, where the atmosphere is more relaxed and fun. We always find the service friendly, unobtrusive and efficient.
A very disappointing experience once again. This restaurant has been billed as a prime destination when in Oakville. Unfortunately the food and the service do not live up to the perception. The service is unattentive and rude. Prices are excessive relative to the quality for the dishes. Far better value to be had elsewhere. If this were the first time it happened then I would write it off as bad luck, but this seems to be the norm.
A great experience, many years of continued success. We'll be back for Soufflé & Seafood Bar.
We had a most enjoyable evening at Jonathans. Their wine list is exceptional. The waiter recommended the Peju Napa Valley Zinfandel and we were pleasantly surprised. We found it quite nice that the chef, also went around and spoke with the customers about their experience. The Rack of Lamb is the best I've ever had...melt in your mouth tender. Service was friendly and non obtrusive. The desserts were sinfully decadent, especially the Chocolate grand marnier Souffle...well worth the wait.
Ate in the seafood/soufle bar. Great service and atmosphere. Fantastic wine list. Always nice. Book the private room downstairs for a special event.
The seafood bar is a great experience if you want a younger croud. I liked i much better than eating in the dining room and a little cheaper. We sat at the bar which is small but the bartender was very friendly and not to hard on the eyes. Try the ribs they come with alot of nice sides.
By far the best restaurant in Oakville! I have been dining here for over 10 years and never, ever dissapointed with the food, atmosphere, or service. As mentioned the lamb is perfect. The fondant potato is a must have. Great wine list with a variety to suit all palettes.
The food is always excellent. Great entertainment. Our favourite spot in Oakville.
Love Jonathon's souffle bar - fantastic service and the best ambiance in Oakville. Not stuffy, just a great night out. Love it!
