A plate of arrogance should be listed on the menu, as that is all we were served for a whopping $500

You only get what you pay for!

Best rib steak ever. Cooked to perfection, but what do you expect at $55 a pop?Allover a good experience. Asked the waiter what was meant by filet-mignon on the bone? He mumbled ( as you should when in doubt) and I never got an intelligent answer. There's tenderloin on the menu as wll and then filet mignon which is tenderloin as well.I spent 50+years in the meat biz, removed thousands of tenderloins but never heard of 'on the bone'...a mystery!

An Off Evening made right!

We dined at Olivers and had a less than spectacular experience. The food was excellent and well prepared, but the service lacked. In our opinon, it lacked greatly. We were left so disappointed that I felt the need to write a bad review saying how the resteraunt did not care about it's patrons and how they didn't make any attempt to right the wrongs. I also wrote directly to the restaurant and relayed our tale of poor service. What followed was a four day conversation with the maitre d and owner. During that time, he apologized, offered a complimentary dinner to make up for the unexpected amount of patrons that evening that lead to poor service and also left me believng without a doubt he was sincerely not happy with their perfomance that night. Anyone can have an off night, an it appears we hit Olivers during the "Taste of Oakvile" promotion that caused an unexpected amount of walk in's on a Sunday night. Bottom line, They went out of their way to correct the poor service and it was obvious they do care tremendously about their patrons and the level of service they provide. Anyone can make mistakes. They accepted responsibility and set everything right. Impresive customer service in this day and age. We will return and enjoy that great food again.

No more passion

Pro's -Friendly staff -Attentive service -Drinks constantly topped up -Food is received Warm -Simple decor -Traditional old style simple fine dining -Quiet Atmosphere -Warm and cozy -Steak cooked beautifully -Small portions Cons -Although staff is friendly and attentive they seem not to communicate with each other as we were asked the same questions 2 minutes apart very annoying -Some drinks were too strong where you didn't taste the flavour of it just alcohol -Appetizers although were kept warm were being brought back to our table instead of being served and left there for us to enjoy -Appetizers weren't impressive, anyone can make goat cheese crostinis, calamari is so overrated, sliced steak ....anyway from fine dining you would expect more lavish appetizers...there is so many options in the culinary world. -Food presentation is very poor, customers are paying big bucks Chef needs to be more creative! -Lobster tail was too rubbery almost very hard not tender, overcooked -mashed potatoes were boring and bland...they need work -Chocolate Cheesecake needs to be more fluffy not so condensed -Staff wanted us out at the end of the night by standing around and giving off the get out vibe -Female server would eavesdrop into our conversations and be at times mouthy thinking we were talking about her A BIG NO NO in a dining experience! -way too dark couldn't see my food Overall seems like once upon a time this place was a gem, but the fire in someones belly burned out and the passion was lost. Now its just making money from suckers like us! Too bad...

NOt too bad

I went here for a first date. It was on a Sunday, so the restaruant was pretty quiet which was nice. The waiter was SO nice and spoke directly to both me and my date (unlike some who just talk to the man and ignore the lady). Appetizers were sooooo good, as was our meals, however, after sampling the food at alot of 4-star restaruants, it wasn't really THAT impressive. Good, high quality, great flavour, but I've had more impressive meals.

Ideal for couples, not large groups

I went there with a group of friends (15 people in total) and we received very good service, and the server and chef were very accommodating about some of our specific dietary restrictions. The food was great, not exceptional. The atmosphere was cozy and private, but a bit too dark, we requested to have the lights turned up in our area because it was difficult to see our food and each other in the very dim light. One thing to note: the server made it very difficult for us to pay our bills separately, to the point where one of us had to manually break down the bill so that we could pay individually. I don't believe this would have been very difficult for the server to do, but he said it would take him 45 minutes to write up separate bills for 15 people, it took us 15 minutes. That was very disappointing as I don't believe it was an unreasonable request. I would recommend this place for a small and intimate dinner outing, not for a large group of people.

Excellent Business Dinner

Our company held a dinner for 15 people in the private room, located at the rear of the restaurant. This room provided us with plenty of space for casual conversation and a beverage before dinner. The hors d'oeuvres and drink service were excellent. Our meals were prepared very well, the presentation was very nice, and the table service was excellent.

Great experience - food was a little pricey but my husband and I went as a recommendation from a close friend for our anniversary. The service was friendly in helping us select a wine for our beef entrees.

You would think that such an "ideal" restaurant would serve milk as a drink. They have milk for the coffee, but will not give you it as a drink. Apparently not. And being a pregnant woman who had a craving, it wasn't very fun. You should not have to cross the road and go to a cheap variety store to get a beverage that a super-expensive restaurant would not give you. Ridiculous. Never going back.

An excellent wine cellar which is priced well below market IMHO. The food and service is very good and the kitchen can accommodate special requests. Highly recommend this as a high end restaurant in downtown oakville

Food and service were among the best in Oakville. While the decor and atmosphere are interesting it does come across as a bit on the stuffy side. The servers really know their stuff, ask them for recommendations.

amazing

We have been to this restaurant several times recently after a long hiatus. The service is impeccable, by far the best that we've experienced in any restaurant in recent memory. Not only were our needs met but they were anticipated by our waiter. We did not have to ask for anything. Beyond professional, the service could be almost be described as clairvoyant. The food is the best we have ever had. Top notch ingredients expertly prepared. The best calamari we have ever tasted. The arugula salad with blue cheese is by far the best salad ever created. The maitre d' (who we also just found out is an owner) has always been on hand to check how we were enjoying our evening. The wine steward (Steve) is incredibly knowledgeable about all things gastronomic (not just wine). And he's funny too, not stuffy at all. His wine pairings have led to divine experiences . Overall this is the best restaurant we have ever had the occasion to visit, and we have dined across the world.

Great

I have gone to this place in the past and always found it to be a top notch resturant. It had been a couple of years and after reading some recent reviews here I was nervous that maybe they have gone downhill. It has been known to happen! I am glad I went back. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. They went above and beyond to accomodate my requests. This is not the type of place where you are going to sit down and be finished in an hour. If that is your defination of good service go elsewhere. This is a resturant where you go to enjoy a fine dining experience. The staff was attentitive and knowledgable without hovering or being arrogant. The food was excellent. Lamb was cooked to perfection, sides were fresh and well prepared. My wife's pasta special was very good as well. Fois gras was as good as any I have tasted anywhere. All in all it was a great experiance and a lesson that you shoud take other peoples reviews with a grain of salt. Try it for yourself.

We had a reservation, as we were celebrating a special occasion. Perhaps we were early, I don't know, but we were seated in a deserted part of the restaurant, so the waiter didn't come by very often. Nonetheless, the food was good. Not spectacular, but not bad, either. Very expensive, but we had expected that. Not the most memorable meal, and considering the cost, definitely not worth a 2nd visit.

A very nice restaurant but some small...

A very nice restaurant but some small improvements could push it to the top of my list. The Appetizers were excellent - especially the seafood plate. We were recommended a nice sweet wine to pair with the Fois Gras - an excellent combination. My wife raved about the duck - which is served as a breast and leg combination. Her only complaint with the dish was there was a bit of work involved with the skin on leg - however she maintained the breast was absolutely cooked to perfection. My caribou was very good as well. The deserts my wife and I were divided on - I found the crepe quite nice while my wife was a little less impressed. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice and the service struck just the right balance. My main though for improvement on this restaurant and this is more a suggestion than a complaint - the wine list is rather "traditional." What I mean here is that if you wanted a mid-to-high end wine you were effectively forced to one of California, France or Italy. Lower to mid priced wines were available from Australia and Canada. The fact is the world has so much more to offer and I would like to see a more eclectic mix at each price range. Australia certainly has some very good (and good value) vintages at higher price ranges. Other locales could also be represented - Spain, Portugal, Chile, Argentina - and these areas can and do produce wines that justify a $100-$150 price tag - and in many instances deliver better value than out of California or France. I just find that shoehorning vintages in different price ranges in a limited manner leaves me feeling a bit restricted.

We waited almost an hour between appetizer and entree. My filet, ordered medium, was red-raw. Blood oozing...They ran out of the Pasta dish (Ravioli) and this at 6 p.m and the Coconut Cream Pie also. Addt'l bread was offered, but never arrived.Dover Sole was 'crispy' as a result of being overcooked. The prices are absurd! This is Suburbia, reality check needed!! $72 for 3 'Christmas Cocktails'??? Where am I? Paris? Merely adequate experience for our Anniversary dinner.

A warm welcome was the only quality. We waited one and a half hour to get our dinner. The waiter was busy serving the regulars and cleaning the tables beside us - no excuses, no mise-en-bouche and no bread. We ordered a steak charded on the outside....the steak was burnt and tasted like gas... The pasta was overcooked and tasteless. Needless to say we will not go back nor do we recommend. Totally overpriced and not worth it.

It took a while for the waiter to get our drink order, the bread was stale, the silverware was spotty, and our wine glasses were scratched, and mine even had a chip in it!The fois gras was soggy and over cooked,as well as the shrimp. It took over 1/2 an hour for our main courses and when they finally arrived my tenderloin was overcooked and the Halibut was dry and chewey. Our veggies were mushy accept for the carrots which were way under cooked and the sauce for the Halibut had split and was dried onto the plate.Desserts were good but we did not get the grand finally we were looking for.The wait staff seemed disorganized and unhappy. Our entire evening was spoiled by the pompus Maitre d and the uncaring waiter.
