I go here at least once every couple weeks. If you like real authentic Thai food, this is the place to go. Portions are great, and the food is great. Although i do have some constructive criticism. The servers and owners aren't great at speaking English, so sometimes they get my order wrong, especially if i asked them to add or take something out of the dish. On a better note, they always serve hot green tea before your meal and have a large selection on the menu. Fantastic spring rolls. Unfortunately they only take cash, which can be a hassle, but the food is well worth it!
What's sticky and gelatinous and red all over? I don't know...but at this restaurant they call it, "Pad Thai." It sure wasn't like any Pad Thai I've ever eaten, and I've had it in several different countries. In no place was it ever served with a bright red tomato sauce. The noodle soup was almost good, but followed by this red ick, it lost its lustre. Well...if you ever decide you'd like something that tastes like very spicy canned Heinz spaghetti with a few bamboo shoots on top, this is the place for you. Bring cash. They don't accept credit or debit cards.
-sometimes favourites don't last; this restaurant is one of them. It used to be my favourite place to eat, with outstanding thai/viet offerings and daily menu specials, take out options, etc., but something has happend in a course of a year of absence, the meal was flavour-less, greasy, cold and impersonal compared to what it used to be. The servers were different, didn't recognize anyone, even regular customers were not there. Too bad this place has bombed out, was a happenin' place to get a quick lunch and affordable dinner,,much too bad.
We have always had excellent food from here. Either to eat in or take out. An unpretentious small restaurant with great food. The Vietnamese Fried Rice is wonderful.

Honestly I have eaten here before, I have had the soup and it was ok...I've had better in B-town for sure. On my last visit I had the chicken pad thai and it was just awful, I left the plate pretty much full, the waitress did not even ask why I hadn't eaten any of it, probably because she didn't care or wouldn't have understood me anyway. The meat which was supposed to be chicken were small bits of dark meat and odds and ends, it was so disgusting, the couple sitting at the table next to us overheard me mentioning it to my husband and said that they had experienced that with the pad thai as well when they visited and make a point of not ordering that. They go to another place close by for pad thai. Personally, I have not had any "good" thai food in Orangeville...or Italian for that matter. What a shame. This place is on my "maybe" list only if I'm in the mood for soup and don't want to drive to Brampton.
I love South 88! When it first opened I was weary about eating at an independent Viet-Thai place. It was different to me. But it was amazing.
Although I've tried multiple items there, the above order remains my constant. Ever since I've gone off to University I miss South 88 greatly despite being surrounded by other Thai restaurants. Many others just don't add up.

We love it here and have been coming since they opened. The spring rolls are the best I've ever eaten! I don't think I've ever ordered anything I didn't like! Tea is brought right away and the food always arrives quickly. Even though Orangeville now has 2 other Thai places and they're nice, South 88 remains my favourite. Enjoy!
Try not to arrive right at peak time. We've also found we can relax more if we come during the week.
Although I've heard everything is delicious, I keep coming back for the curry. Such a smooth, sweet, lemony, perfectly spicy curry on fluffy rice. I always intend to order something else, but can never resist the "call of the curry". Yum. Need some now.

The food is always served piping hot ( be careful if you order the awesome South 88 Wings - let them cool for a few minutes). The dishes are extremely flavourful and fresh, with portions being very generous. Lunchtime can get busy, as it is first come, first served and seating is limited. Call ahead for takeout to beat the rush.
One last recommendation; you have not had Spring Rolls until you have tried the South 88 version. They are a meal onto themselves!
