The atmoshpere is nice and worth bringing out-of-town guests to for that reason alone. Most of the food items are plain and do not look appealing under the glass counters, apart from some dessert items. Might be better treated as a place to get a good cup of coffee than as a place for a great dining experience.
The old time atmosphere is the big seller here! They sell a variety of specialty cakes, squares, donuts and pies The icing on their cakes is too sweet for me. However the chocolates in Apple Annie's are some of the best I've ever had. I also like their huge Texas donuts. Their lunch selections seem a little overpriced for what you get but their salads are very nice. I used to buy their cookies a lot before they shrunk them a few years ago-they are tasty. Their cheese biscuits are good and their sweet loaves, too of which they provide many samples. They put on a yearly Christmas treat day when they serve hot chocolate and Christmas cookies and yulelog-for free! So keep watch for that day-I think it's in November.
I dreamed of finding an utterly unique cafe in the country and Mariposa Mkt Cafe is it! Full of atmoshere, packed with people in cafe bakery ecstasy surrounded by jam jars, cookies, coffee, sandwiches, chocolates, cinnamon buns, muskoka berry tarts...phew! The line for food was overwhelming and I couldn't wait so grabbed coffee instead. Yes, my drip coffee could have been better...but I didn't care. Asa a foodie, I was happy to be surrounded by the devotees of this cafe. Please visit. It's unique charm cannot be done justice by my words alone.
Every time I walk down the main street I stop in and help myself to one of the many cake samples. Then buy some cookies and continue my walk. Great place with the fudge downstairs and special things/odd things found nowhere else.
What was once the icon of downtown orillia has grown to be a big disappointment. Don't sit upstairs, or you'll have no choice but to look around at a very unkept, dirty building! A good housekeeper is definitely needed! All of the food sits in glass coolers and looks very unappealing. If you eat there, stick to the pastries, muffins, bagels and turkey sandwiches. All of the prebaked sandwiches and wraps look awful and extremely unappetizing. Throngs of people create atmosphere, but the dirt is a huge turnoff!
This is such a great place to sit and relax. The food is fresh and very good. Appetizing and hot or cold as should be. Interesting choices displayed nicely. You can sit outside if weather is nice. Always very busy. The bakery is to die for! They have cakes of kinds and can be ordered for special occasions. You can buy other little things to. All and all the don't miss store in Orillia Ont.
The market itself was beautiful,gifts and pictures are everywhere to buy.There's a bakery with wonderful looking items,but the taste of EVERYTHING was bland.Our lunch and baked goods had very little flavor.I think we should of got a clue when we saw only seniors eating there.Their palets tend to want very mild foods.The baked goods looked so sweet and yummy yet they wre not sweet.Great place for a much older crowd.Our family really enjoyed the candy shop below,Thank god for the candy shop(fudge to die for).
What a great place! Wish we had something like this in our town. The summerberry salad had a lovely, light orange vinaigrette, fresh strawberries, mixed greens and blueberries. Excellent. The flatbread was loaded with chicken, cheese, spinach, grilled veg. Excellent. All else was also excellent. Large portions too. Don't let the long line-up discourage you, although it seems disorganized, you get through the line fairly quickly. And the bake shop items are awesome -- we tried all the free samples and could have loaded up our car with all manner of delicious calories! Do not miss the Mariposa Market!

Best bakery I've ever visited. The people working here are terrific, never saw one not smiling and talking to customers. Placed a large order to pick up next day and it was filled perfectly and packaged to go in large boxes. Prices are cheap and product is excellent. Highly recommend a visit to this market. If travelling to Orillia its a must stop, I guarantee you'll buy something.
The meal cost us each approximatley $7.00 including our drinks and the food and desserts were awesome. We ended up ordering dessert to go as there was such a wide selection of delictable items to choose from. If you ever get to the area give it a try it is a must taste !!
I visited the Mariposa Market for a little breakfast and the large coffee is HUGE! They have great pastries and the atmosphere is very nice. Its an experience to go there.
