THE BEST POUTINE IN DURHAM!!! And everything else is way above par. Only wish they served Pickerel
Delicious crispy batter. Just love the Cod on a Bun(awesome kaiser) and the jumbo shrimp is worth the price. Try the Cajun poutine, it's the best! Yum yum
My family has been going to this place for more than 15 years now and we've never had a complaint. If you're in a rush you can call ahead your order. The fish has never been greasy or oily. The fries are great - although we've never tried the poutine so I can't speak for that - and the gravy is not overly salty. If you don't want to spend a lot on fish, try the Alaskan Pollock - just as tasty as the others and not as pricey.
I've been eating at PB's for over 15 years easily. I find the prices fair, especially because you'll pay the same price at different places around town and won't get the same quality or quantity. I always get a small poutine and only finish may 4 out of 10 times. i don't know what other people are talking about when they say the portions are small. If you think you're not getting enough food try finishing a Large Poutine with crumbs, not an easy feat for anyone under 200 lbs. My 270 lb friend is often defeated by PB's Large poutine. Service is always prompt and right to order, can be a little on the expensive side if you get fish but you get what you pay for, if you don't like it go to Mcdonalds.
PB's make easily the best poutine this side of Montreal. I've tried many times to find better, to no avail. The Cajun seasoning is so amazing and popular that most regulars don't even have to ask for it anymore -- and the owners have recently started adding new poutine seasonings. The only one I don't like is the pineapple curry, but I've been told it's good when mixed with Thai. The fish is good but overpriced. Stick with the fries and you'll go home happy.
My wife and I went here based on the reviews we read. I can't say we were blown away, the chips were ok, the fish was pretty good, the price was a little on the high side. The gravy was that horrible powder stuff, and, once again, NO MUSHY PEAS! Overall, not too bad, nice service, but the chips were definitely overhyped by previous reviewers. On a side note, is there anywhere that does serve mushy peas? You can't call yourself an English style fish and chips place without the mushy peas.
I stopped here this afternoon on the recommendation of a few locals. I ordered the cod and chips which were served promptly. I sampled the fries first and they were amazing, possibly the best from a fish and chip place I've had. The fish was fairly average, and at $7.90 for a takeout order, overpriced. I would definitely go back for an order of fries but I wouldn't bother with the fish again, I can get sit down service at my local shop in East York for a much better portion of cod at a similar price with bread and butter thrown in.... If you have a craving for fries when you're in the area, this is your place.
Look no furter good Fish and Chips good price. I love this place!
Excellent fish and chips! Good prices, friendly staff, big portions. Just like back in England.
For deep-fried, english-style battered fish and chips look no furter; PB's is the only great place in town. And the tartar sauce and gravey is really good too.
