Food is awesome but quite expensive
The service is second to none, the food is excellent.. I had the prime rib and it was fantastic.. You get what you pay for!
Friends insisted on taking us to the Oshawa Keg. We told them of the terrible reputation of this location, but they did not believe us. Now they do. Service was terrible, but what can you expect from a location with a revolving door hiring policy. Food was okay, but two of the orders were sent back due to mix ups. This location is not a good indication of other Keg locations. I worked for a Keg supplier for years and enjoyed many a fine meal, but not in Oshawa. Oshawa and Whitby have alot of better places to eat.
We usually can rely on the keg for a nice steak or prime rib. The meat is very good and the sides are usually good.
Birthday dinner for my wife at the Keg in Ajax. Not sure why someone who doesn't eat beef or pork would like the Keg but off we go. A round of appetizers including the goat cheese, two escargot and one calamari. I read an earlier comment that the calamari was rubbery. Not mine - great taste and didn't even need the dipping sauce. My parents culinary taste buds leave a little to be desired (OK a lot) but really enjoyed their escargot. The goat cheese is nice but there are never enough "crackers" with it - ask for a couple extra right away. Main course - kids ribs for my youngest and she could not stop raving (and she is an expert). A couple steaks (perfectly cooked) as well as a steak/crab order for grandma rounded off a great meal. Desset - try the Billy Miner Pie - more than enough for 2 people.
Prime rib was incredible!! I have never had prime rib, so I thought I'd try it, and I loved it! It was cooked perfectly, very tender and flavourful. It was served with a loaded baked potato and caesar salad, which were amazing as well. I had the cheesecake for dessert and it was delicious...and tasted fresh. I also highly recommend the baseball steak. My husband ordered that, and I have had it myself as well, it is a large round steak that is very tender.
A little too pricey for me but I have never been disappointed with a meal or the service. The Keg is only my second choice to the original Keg Mansion in Toronto. Great Steaks!!!!
Striploin was tough, romaine lettuce in the Ceasar salad was old and limp. Side vegetables were luke warm. Order the Baseball steak or the filet mignon instead
i was excited about having the kalamari again, last year i was amazed how good it and the sauce was. it was like rubber this time, the sauce was horrible, no doubt frozen bagged kalamari overcooked. the shrimp that came with the steak were small, over cooked and tasteless. Garnishes were wilted. I didnt even eat the twice baked potato. Im afraid to pay that much cash and go back if its becoming like all the other food places in durham. service was good though.
I go to the Keg in London at least once a month and allways get the same thing, allways perfect and amazing. I was recently at the Keg in Oshawa while visiting a friend there. All three of us ordered the Terriki classic meal Medium, we all recived our steaks blue rare..... I mean come on if you cant tell a diffrence between blue rare and Medium you should not be in this bussiness. Not only was the food horrible but when we sent the food back all they did was re fire it on the grill, making the steaks lose all of their flavor. To be honest I work as a bartender/server and I was fairly put off by this. I tipped my waitress well and payed for my drinks but refused to pay for the steaks. I would recomend not visiting this location, if you want a good steak, come to london I guess.
Service was good to exceptional. Unfortunatly I was quite ill with the food turning my night into a nightmare. Probably the lobster??
Been there many times. Sometimes it's excellent like during their lobster fest the Lobster is superb but I warn you, don't order in any other time it's small due to being out of season and you will be dissapointed. I ordered the crab this time, figured it's frozen anyhow so I'd get a good batch. What a waste of money. The crab was only 3 legs and hardly any meat, but lots of soft shell. I was dissapointed. The ceasar salad was mushy, wilted and drenched in dressing, as if it's been sitting under a heat lamp for a long time,we sent it back. The manager was good taking the salad off the meal but that's all she did. I've been there many times. Sometimes you get good service and sometimes you don't. But ususally the steaks and prime rib are always consistent and a sure bet. I cant wait till the Ajax one opens so that I can go there on a weekend, right now the line ups are way too long. I give my clients gift certificates and I don't give them Keg certificates for the reason of the wait. So, avoid the Friday and Saturday eve or be ready to wait a minimum of 1 hour from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, it's not uncommon to wait almost 2 hours. You know what I want to see in resturants? If i'm not happy with the service, I can request someone else. If my clients are not happy with me they go to someone else, why not in a resturant, we are stuck to grit our teeth and hold our patience. Worse yet people still feel obligated to tip them and that's why they get away with it. No service, should be no tip maybe then they would try harder, but we feel obligated and as we tip a min of 10% for poor service we hold our feelings and then complain to others about the service. Can we not tip and not feel guilty for bad service?
Although we certainly don't rate the Keg as fine dining, we do always enjoy our food here, it's certainly consistent so we rate it 9 for what it is.. We had a lovely girl serving us this time... however we have on occasion found that Keg servers can be less than friendl, bordering on arrogant. Based on the review I recently read from one of the servers who obviously works at this establishment, likely with that attitude she's likely one of our less than wonderful experiences. This is a forum for customer comments, not for comments from restaurant staff. However, in response to that post, I would like to remind her and all staff that perhaps when one receives a less than favourable tip .. he/she perhaps did not provide service that warranted a 15% or better tip. And if you have to "tip out" to your establishment, that is between you and your manager not me as the customer. Give me good service and I'll tip you .. if not, please don't expect my hard earned money.
Amazing, The chicken was so moist and juicy and the steak was cooked to perfection! The service was un real! they waited on us hand and foot but didnt also gave us our own space. It was quiet and relaxing.Best food experience of my life.
Joel Is the best bartender in town. Great atmosphere, reasonable prices, and the best steaks in the area. Service is usually top notch, as is the quality. If you want to get a steak in whitby/oshawa... its your only real option.
Unfortunately, living in Oshawa there are not too many restaurants to visit for steak and lobster. Actually, I don't know of anywhere else they sell lobster in Oshawa.
Could not have asked for any better service then what I received tonight! Excellent waitress and the food was delicious. I am so stuffed I could stop eating for a week. Thank you for a very enjoyable evening. With a perfect meal and perfect service. Will be returning again as soon as I regain my hunger.
I was a little reluctant to reserve a table at the Keg , after reading some of the comments on your site. What a fantastic night we had on Thursday. Wonderful food, fabulous deserts and professional and chalming service. It's a busy place and one must account for that. The Keg is busy, because it's an exceptional place to eat, you would be lucky to get Sherrilynn as your waitress, but all the same I noticed that all the staff were working at top speed and having the enjoyment of the customers at heart. Fantastic review from my guests.
Hello i just wanted to say what an excellent time we had at The KEG in oshawa the last week. Frank (Fred?) was our waiter and did an amazing job. I dont normally drink crown royal, but he explained that its the same price as the other ryes, so I indulged! He also recommended our deliscious appetizer, and also suggested we try the creme brulee. Amazing experience, my wife and i will be back!!
I would just like to say that we have eaten at the Keg many times in the past and enjoyed it.This time was our 25 wedding anniversary. My wife works very hard and asks for very little for her self. Her wish was to have a nice dinner at the Keg.The server said to try the lobster thermidor. Well we have had this dish in the past. I can say for a fact this was not lobster thermidor as i know it to be.It was dry and tastless and the portion was very small. Needles to say she was very very disapointed. So as not to make a scene she would not let me say anything to the server at the time. Thats just the way she is. But I want to let you know that we were both very unhappy and this did make for a very disapointing special day for my wife. I'm sure I'm not the only person to tell you this, and I hope you will make a effort to change this dish.I will look forward to hearing from you so that we can enjoy a meal at the Keg in the future.
