We decided to select this restaurant to celebrate our 50th (Golden) Wedding Anniversary and did not regret it. We shared 5 samplings and a bottle of wine. We were seated at a window and found the food, service and ambiance to be just as good and memorable as our previous visits over the past 10 years. And to top it all off we appreciated the complimentary dessert/presentation complete with sparklers. We'll be back!

Great dinner out

Loved this place (Nepean St. location). Yes, the plates are small, because they are tasting plates! Lots of selection, and the food was delicious. My husband and I shared five dishes with a bottle of wine for $100 - not overpriced at all, and the perfect amount of food. Service was great. Will be going back for sure.

Aroma Meze review

Service: good Food tastiness: good Glueten free options: very good Value for money: Very poor. Portions very small. It advertises itself as a tapas-style place, with lots of small plates for tasting. The plates are indeed small, but the prices are not. $14 for 4 ribs . $16 for 4 shrimp gnocchi. $16 for 4 cheese-filled dates. The only reason I didn't leave the place starving, was because I had 4 glasses of water. To top it all off, there was tinfoil in the middle of one of the dates (possibly from the cheese wrapping). The chef did come and apologize, but I thought the $16 item would've been removed from the bill. If it was a hair, a mouse dropping or a piece of glass, it would've (???), but no. So, feeling like I had overpaid already, then to not get a discount when the food was contaminated, I was very disappointed. Note - this was at the Wellington St. location. I can't comment on the Nepean St. location.

Good but not as good as the hype.

I heard plenty of good things about this restaurant so I was a bit disappointed that it did not match the ballyhoo. First, let me say that the food was all exceedingly excellent. The menu is very innovative with things like ostrich and kangaroo that one just does not find easily in Ottawa. “Adventuresome” describes the menu. I get that the portions are supposed to be small but be prepared for very small portions. After sharing six dishes with my friend, I did not feel that I had eaten a lot. My friend ordered a glass of wine and it looked like it was just thimble full. So this is where the place looses points. If we pay $14.00 for four tiny pork ribs and then we have to pay to get some bread, we at least want to get good service. However, the waitperson was very slow even though the place was not busy. We had to ask for our water glasses to be filled twice before it was done. I wasn’t really made to feel like anybody cared whether or not we came back.

The wee front porch of Aroma’s turn-of-the-century brick house makes for lovely al fresco dining — but if the weather turns nasty, the inside is welcoming, too, with its Tuscan yellow floor and wood tables that seat no more than a couple dozen. The Mediterranean vibe continues with a lengthy small-plates menu — meze in Greek — that ranges from traditional Aegean fare (think dolmades and loukaniko) to more innovative items (kangaroo souvlaki, anyone?). A favourite is the pan-seared East Coast scallops served with wasabi-infused caviar. Desserts are worth main-course restraint. The wine list naturally favours Greece and Italy.
