Laptops and lattes: Ottawa’s top cafes for working

Laptops and lattes: Ottawa’s top cafes for working

The Bluebird is a bright, funky cafe where you can sit down to work while listening to the subdued strains of jazz music and sipping on fair trade espresso. They serve soups, salads and sandwiches, as well as delicious pastries, but the real draw here is the coffee. Bluebird Coffee is a micro roaster that draws aficionados from far and wide to buy bags of their whole roasted beans.

Breakfast in Ottawa’s ByWard Market

Breakfast in Ottawa’s ByWard Market

I have to get this off my chest – this place is one of my favs. I go here for coffee and brekkie, and to sit and watch the world fly by. It also comes highly recommended by people who work in the restaurant businesses in the ByWard Market. I love their old-fashioned grilled cheese sandwich. Want to try something different? Come here and see what they have to offer.

A caffeine high in Lowertown: Great Ottawa coffee stops

Since opening in 2012, Blue Bird has become popular with java junkies off all stripes — from b-boys to aging intellectuals. Its beans are roasted in small batches on site. Lattes are flavourful and creamy; the decaf is thankfully dark roast. From high-top marble tables and chairs to overstuffed rockers, there’s seating for every taste, too. The work of local artists graces the calming yellow walls. A basement kitchen turns out all the fare, including paninis (roast beef and gorgonzola; chicken and avocado) and fresh fruit salad.
