Food was tasty. Beware the server will tell you he's bringing bread and a yogurt dip for the table. When you get the bill they charge $14.25 for these 2 items.
First. Great food! The only reason i gave a 4 star was the price/portions. But judge for yourself as the food really is top tier.
They catered my son's wedding - we come here often for large family celebrations - and for simple lunch buffets. Everything is well done - and they are nice friendly people too. This is one of my favourite places in Ottawa - although its location at St. Laurent is not close to me.
Relatives took my boyfriend and I out to Coconut Lagoon. They lived in India for 4 years, and consider this the best Indian restaurant in Ottawa - I'm new to the city, but so far I think they're correct! We had masala dosas to share as appetizers, and they were delicious. The sambar sauce served with them was perfectly spicy, with golden beets in it (my favourite veggie!). I had lamb thali for dinner, which came with a lamb curry, basmati rice, parathas, and 7 small dishes - raita, chickpea masala, sambar, eggplant masala, pumpkin curry, vegetable biryani, and kheer. It was all delicious, and an obscene amount of food - I took about half of it home with me as leftovers! Everyone else's meals were great too - another thali, lamb curry, and vegetable biryani. We also had about 6 beers between the 4 of us, and 2 madras coffees afterwards. Service was fast, friendly, and informative - when my meal was brought out, everything was explained for me; and the staff had recommendations when we were deciding what to order as well. I can't wait to go back!
Appearence of the place is dark and halloween kind.... worked for me as I visited this place on Halloween.... Purple walls and some white other yellow lights creat perfect Halloween effect... Food was average.... Main reason I made a choice not to visit this place again was bad service and rude responses.... The guy who spoke with me (Ithink was owner) was exteremly rude.... Guys, pleasnt table side waiter would be much appreciated and might make visit to this place enjoyable rather than annoying....
One word to describe this: delicious. Excellent service, food was really good but I suggest you not to go for the buffet because buffet is not good, the curry has no taste. However if you just order the dish its one of the best taste you will ever get. I been there more than once. If you like spicy food order chicken tikka spicy.
What a wonderful south Indian restaurant! We went there based on the 'Where' review, and were thoroughly pleased.The food was delicious and plentiful, and the service gracious.We wish that we had a similar south Indian restaurant in our hometown of Edmonton! Our daughter is attending U of O and we were in Ottawa to settle her in. You can be assured that she will be ordering take-out from there!! Can't wait for our next visit to Ottawa!

Can a vegetarian restaurants sell butter chicken? The owners, twin brothers from Kerala, India, explain: Not only is butter chicken not a vegetarian dish, it’s not from Kerala either. But, people love butter chicken, so they put it on the menu anyways. I would go and try the vegetable korma and their signature vegetarian thali, and ignore the fact that some meat is being consumed around you.
