Meet the owner

A sparkling young couple smile lovingly at each other across the dinner table; a handsome moustached man on a bar stool leans causally on the counter top. These are the pictures that grace the walls of Fratelli, but just as easily describe the real people who meet and dine each and every day at this notable Ottawa restaurant.

Fratelli was launched in 1996 by Pasquale and Louisa Valente, who named their restaurant after their two sons, who would eventually take over the business (“fratelli" means "brother" in Italian). The pictures on their walls are far more than decoration; they trace the history of the Valente family and their passion and dedication to food, and while some faces no longer grace the kitchen, they are forever memorialized and live on in the recipes, the wine and the spirit of Fratelli.

"Our goal is and has always been to be an inviting place where your family can go on a Monday night because you don't feel like cooking and then again on a Friday night to celebrate a birthday or special occasion," says Morgan, the restaurant's manager. "We aim to serve high quality comfort food where everyone can find something they love on the menu."
