No Frill Joint

This is about the only Chinese restaurant located east of Bronson along Somerset St. worth going to. The (no-cart) dim sum is notable for being the cheapest in Chinatown, but can sometimes take forever to come out of the kitchen. The ingredients are not of premium quality, though the food is fairly consistent and tasty. Atmosphere is virtually non-existent, so this isn't the destination for a romantic meal.

Not worth it! I've been to jadeland 3-4 times...

Not worth it! I've been to jadeland 3-4 times, and each time it kept getting worse. We used to go fo dim sum, and the meat is just terrible, chewy, tasteless, the seafood isn't fresh, smelly, when I complained to the staff about the ha gao they told me no they taste great and are fresh. Well, that was the last time I went, there are far better places to go for dim sum, only one restaurant is worse than this one.

Close to real China, only with fine Canadian ingredients

Drop in Jadeland before 6pm of after 8 pm, order by numbers: 16, 116, 145. If not satisfied, I'll consume leftovers! I used be a frequent traveler to China and find Jadeland one of the best places to try real Chinese food.

We ordered a *large* assortment of dim sum between the four of us, and all the food was delicious. I have been eating here for the past year, and I have never been disappointed by the food. Also, the staff is very helpful and friendly, so even if you aren't familiar with dim sum, you are sure to have a great time.

I've been to Jadeland many times. The food...

I've been to Jadeland many times. The food definitely draws me back, especially their version of the General Tso's Chicken! The restaurant itself is fairly small, as are many of the great places along Somerset. Its not a quiet place, and there is often a linup of people inside/outside the restaurant waiting for tables or take-out. Also, making a reservations has never worked out for me, although you will get a table and often sooner than a lot of the people standing in line. It is not uncommon for them to ask the parties of 2 if they'd mind sharing a large 8 person table with some other parties of 2. All in, its a great place with very tasty food, which is definitely the highlight. The service is not exceptional, but is everything you'd need in a small place like Jadeland.

An excellent Chinese restaurant in the Somerset...

An excellent Chinese restaurant in the Somerset Street tradition. Not fancy but clean and pleasant with tables in a number of different configurations to sit from two to large numbers. Food is reliably excellent and offers a huge variety of options. The fact that the restaurant is always full and usually full of diners of Chinese origin is a good sign! My personal favourites? The Hot and Sour Soup is the best I've had anywhere. The lobster specials are wonderful. The barbecued duck is a generous half duck with wonderfully crispy, spicy skin and tender moistly seasoned meat. Deeelicious!

The soup was excellent. Lots of chinese veggies and shredded chicken breast. Hot Chilli Pepper sauce lifted the broth. The "Rainbow Noodles" was superb. Lots of seafood, shrimp, scallops, squid, chicken, pork and vegetables with vermicelli in the natural stir sauce. Soy sauce and Chillis's gave it a boost. Chinese tea was excellent. 2 persons dined for under $20 including tip.
