Hot soup on a cold day

After a friend had gotten her hair done in the area, we asked about a good place for a simple lunch and they recommended Memories. We got there at noon on a Tuesday and there were a few customers there enjoying huge salads and sandwhiches. We had a lovely hot and flavourful squash soup, a huge veggie sandwhich on toasted grain bread with herbed cheese, pesto, lettuce and cucumber and a chicken quesadilla . All very fresh and nicely presented. Water was brought without having to ask for it. The menu catered well to vegetarians as well although it wasn't large. The pies and cakes in the counter were huge-too stuffed to give them a try. A good place for an afternoon dessert/coffee. Also serve a weekend breakfast. Service was very good. Prices reasonable.

I frequent Ottawa for business and once I found...

I frequent Ottawa for business and once I found Memories I just can't stop returning for these two dishes. The granny smith apple salad has the most wonderful flavor - it's the spiced pecans, the cheese, the crisp apples, the tasty dressing and the always fresh romaine lettuce. These ingredients are marvelous together and I have not once been dissapointed (I've ordered this dish probably over a dozen times). The same goes for the Morrocan chickpea plate. The vegetable stew complements the chickpeas and basmatti rice to a "t". Although, the best part is the mango chutney that adds something special with each bite. Ensure that the staff don't miss this part of the dish (it's happened once or twice before). You won't be sorry! As for the service, yes, it can be laid back, but it comes with the atmosphere. If I don't have the extra time or patience, I've ended up doing take out...the food is worth it!

OVERALL, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A 10 BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE WAITRESSES WORKING THAT DAY WERE REALLY BAD. WHEN BEING SERVED INSIDE BY THE WAITRESS I ASKED FOR A GLASS OF WATER ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, I NEVER RECEIVED THE WATER....BOTH MY SISTER AND I ATE OUR MEALS WITHOUT ANY DRINKS! WE SAT AT OUR TABLE PROBABLY FOR ABOUT A HALF HOUR WAITING, WATCHING PEOPLE COMING IN AFTER US AND WERE BEING SERVED THEIR DRINKS AND THEIR MEALS. WHEN WE FINALLY GOT OUR LUNCH SERVED, MY SOUP THAT I HAD ORDERED WAS COLD....SO I TOLD OUR WAITRESS SHE COULD FORGET IT, I NO LONGER WANT THE SOUP. OUR BLT TOASTED WAS SITTING ON THE COUNTER FOR HALF HOUR, IT WAS COLD AND SOGGY TOLD HER TO TAKE IT BACK. I JUST HAVE TO SAY THAT WHEN SITTING IN YOUR RESTAURANT I COULD NOT HELP BUT NOTICE YOUR TWO WAITRESSES WORKING THAT DAY WERE IN THIS BIG HURRY, RUNNING BY US, OVERLY EXITED FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON,IT WAS NOT A BUSY DAY IN THE RESTAURANT, NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY....IT MADE US EXTREMELY NERVOUS. I THINK IT IS SOOOOO IMPORTANT TO BE CALM, IT SHOWS THE CUSTOMERS THAT YOU HAVE EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL AND IT IS JUST SO ANNOYING. I'VE NEVER FELT RELEAVED TO LEAVE A RESTAURANT, FEELING SO NOT RELAXED, JUST NERVED FROM THE EXPERIENCE. I DID HAVE TO GET UP AND GET MY OWN DESERT, THE PERSON SERVING DESSERT BEHIND THE COUNTER WAS MORE WORRIED ABOUT WHEN HER SHIFT WOULD BE COMING TO AN END THAN GIVING ME ANY KIND OF SERVICE. I ASKED HER IF I COULD HAVE TWO GLASSES OF WATER FOR OUR WAITRESS NEVER BROUGHT IT TO US, SHE POURED TAP WATER INTO THE GLASSES WITHOUT ANY ICE!! WHEN GETTING OUR CARROT CAKE, THERE WAS THE BACK OF THE CAKE MISSING. AT THIS POINT, I WAS DONE COMPLAINING. I BELIEVE THE RIGHT THING FOR OUR WAITRESS TO DO THAT DAY WAS TO APOLOGIZE AND AT LEAST CREDIT US THE PIECE OF CAKE, SEEING THE KIND OF SERVICE WE RECIEVED. UNFORTUNATELY, WE DID NOT. ITS A REAL SHAME BECAUSE I THINK YOUR FOOD, DESSERT MENU IS AMAZING. I JUST CRINGE THINKING ABOUT COMING BACK INTO TO YOUR RESTAURANT KNOWING THE GIRLS I DELT WITH ON THAT DAY MAY HAVE TO SERVE ME AGAIN. I DID COME IN THE DAY PRIOR TO THIS, AND I HAVE TO SAY THE GIRL THAT SERVED ME WAS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. TOO BAD SHE WAS NOT WORKING THAT AFTERNOON, MAYBE I WOULD FEEL DIFFERENTLY. I DID NOT LEAVE MY WAITRESS ANY TIP! DO YOU BLAME ME?

Absolutely fantastic! This restaurant has a cozy...

Absolutely fantastic! This restaurant has a cozy, intimate atmosphere and the service is very friendly and quick. There is a wide range of home-made desserts that are super delicious. I like that they use fair trade coffee, and most of the meals are healthy. I will definitely be going back there a lot!
