Worst Dinning Experience EVER!!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! I have been to milestones more than once and I had bad experience at every visit. Last night ...We were a party of 4 with reservation. We waited for an hour. They were very stuck up and unprofessional, hostess talking about her sexlife in details but I digress, when we were finally seated almost an hour later we were ignored when we got to our table. NO DRINKS MENU after another 15 minutes, waiter shows up and drops menus doesn't ask to offer us drinks and walks away. At this point it was late in the evening and we were hungry. I ordered squash ravioli, it was undercooked rubbery , it was awful! NEVER, EVER AGAIN! will i return to this restaurant. BAD SERVICE< BAD FOOD>STUCK UP WAITRESS.

Consistent

The meal was great, the location is superb. Right downtown Ottawa, it is within walking distance of the By-ward market and Sparks St. The service was very good; our server was able to answer questions about the wine list that we did not expect. The only problem was the atmosphere. We were given a booth which seated the three of us very comfortably, but it was right near the entrance of the kitchen. There is (or was) no door separating the kitchen from the dining area so we heard every smash and clash of dishes being broken or moved around, cook staff arguing with wait staff, and the constant noise of equipment being used. I like milestones and would eat here again, but, I would ask for a table as far away from the kitchen as possible.

Very nice!

Fantastic meal with great variety for all tastes. Great gluten free menu which is still rare, and the GF meals were all delicious. The waiter was attentive and knowledgeable.

Rude Staff

This review does not relate to the food quality but rather to the staff and services. My daughter recently went for a job interview at Milestones in downtown Ottawa. The manager was rude, abrupt and generally unpleasant with her. She is a bilingual young lady in her third year at Ottawa U. For some reason she wanted to work at Milestones but not anymore after the way she was treated. This incident is indicative of the quality of your restaurant and staff and tells me that they do not deserve our business nor anyone else in this fine city.

Favourite HOT Spot

Being a server myself and having parents as chefs, I am very critical about the service and food I receive. My experience with Milestones since it first open downtown has always been superb...I rarely receive good service or quality dishes, but I tip my hat to the management team who have hand picked these phenomenal staff who give this place such a warm but upbeat atmosphere. I have been coming to both locations for years and have introduced all my friends who agree with me that it has to be restaurant of choice for all occassions. The menu is filled with wonderful dishes for all preferences!! Enjoy!

Even though this website refuses to register my comment unless I fill in the "required fields",I have no comment on the food, the atmosphere, the prices or anything else about this restaurant because, despite two attempts to make a reservation at the Pinecrest location, I've yet to visit the place. The first attempt was to book for a group of six. I was told they don't take reservations for that many people. The next attempt was today, when I called to make a reservation for four (plus a 2-year-old) for 6 pm. I was advised I could only reserve for after 7:30 because "they only reserve 4 or 5 tables at 6 pm" and there were no more reservations available for that time. I could, if I wished, turn up and take my chances of getting in. With a 2-year-old in tow, yet! Wake up folks. If you want to run a roadhouse, fine. Don't take reservations. But if you're aspiring to be a cut above that, get with the tour. There are still some reliable adults out here who won't behave like a gang of rowdies and stiff you on the booking.

Worth a 30% tip!

I'm a tough person when it comes to tips but our server was exceptional from the moment that we walked in and asked for a very quiet table. We arrived at 4:30pm, intentionally ahead of dinner rush, but found the atmosphere stayed very pleasant as the restaurant filled up. Strawberry lemonades were a big hit as a non-alcoholic option. The yummy yam frites (thin sliced sweet potato fries) are incredible and come with 3 fantastic dipping sauces: a cumin/cinnamon mayo (sweet), a chipotle ketchup (hot) and a green apple cider vinegar that is an incredibly unique tangy contrast to the sweet, crispy fries. My dining partner (over 60) had a beautifully grilled pork chop with fresh asparagus, small roasted potatoes and grape tomates. She loved every bite. I am in the 26-40 age range and had a fantastic cold chicken salad with a honey-lime peanut dressing and crsipy bits of red tortilla strips for contrast. The salad was finely chopped, which ensured that every bite was equally balanced in flavour and easy to eat. Our server (sorry that I forget her name) was attentive, showed great concern for my special requests and seemed to sincerely love her job. We so enjoyed our experience and our food - just a shame that we didn't have an ounce of room for dessert!

Amazing!

Went for our anniversary dinner and the food and drinks were amazing. I was disappointed that I was so full that I couldn't finish my plate, otherwise I would have licked it clean!

Great, only a few grumbles.

We had a great meal, and we had few complaints. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was wonderful. Our only real issue was the fact that we were seated next to the only other people in the section we were in, and that they placed other people right next to us. It made more sense to space people out. Otherwise, everything was excellent. The restaurant was clean, and I appreciated the fact that you can look directly into the kitchen. A wonderful food experience, and the best burger we've EVER tasted.

Best Service and Best Rib

My family went to MIlestone for an advanced celebration of Father's Day last Friday. We didn't make any reservation but they were able to find us a table for three in less than a minute. We ordered their famous Spinach and Artichoke dip for a starter. Both my husband and my daughter liked it to think that I have to move heaven and earth just to make them eat veggies. we ordered our drinks and main course and waited for about 10-15 minutes. While we were eating my daughter told me to hug her because she was getting cold. Our server, Danny Kidd might have noticed it. We were surprise when he came to us with a black blanket for my daughter. We were really touched and impressed with Danny's being sensitive! That is over and beyond his duty as a server in that restaurant. But it's not only with their service that we were impressed with. The grilled cheese sandwhich was a hit for my daughter, the shrimp disk is phenomenon but the slow roasted prime rib is a box-office hit! I tried it and let me tell you, it melts in your mouth! My husband ordered the chef cut and decided to take home half of the order. My husband forgot to bring the box and only remembered it when we were already inside the car. We could not believe it when we saw Danny, running after us with the box on one hand! Talk about customer service. We will definitely come back on this restaurant and we will make sure to bring other friends with us.

Very busy but nice ambiance and attentive waiter...

Very busy but nice ambiance and attentive waiter called Denny. The food was not the quality for the price charged. We ordered the chowder and caesar salad (both were very good), but the Drummetes, Kobe meatloaf and mixed seafood entres were too salty and we could not finish. The salmon and the shrimp were overcooked and loaded with spices that did not compliment but oblitherated the delicate flavours of the seafood. After complaining on the saltiness of the Drummetes, we did not feel it would be taken seriously if we complained on our entrees. The Butterscotch Pot dessert was unexceptional and a little dry. We would not return to this restaurant understandabley; too pricey for the quality that was provided and there is no excuse.

Upon arrival for our 7 p.m. reservation we were seated promptly and greeted by our server within minutes. The restaurant was busy for a Sunday evening but our server, Dana, was attentive to our requests and ensured our water glasses were refilled as needed. For appetizers our guests ordered potato soup au gratin and we ordered the warm spinach dip, which was delicious. The person who brought the soup forgot a spoon so we had to flag down another server to obtain a spoon. I had the lamb medallions, which equalled about 8 oz. and cooked to perfection. For a relaxed, not rushed dinner I highly recommend Milestone restaurant in Ottawa.

I went there with friends for brunch on Sunday. The hostess was friendly and so was the waitress. We really enjoyed the setting and athmosphere. Unfortunately, our order got lost somewhere and we still didn't have our food after 35 minutes. Someone who looked like a manager came to appologize and we finally got our orders after waiting over 45 minutes. The food was good, the salsa on the hashbrowns was a nice touch, but the eggs probably cooked in sausage fat, they were litterally swimming in a pool of fat. I ate it all because I was so ungry after waiting so long, the taste was fine, but it was really too fat. My friends seemed to enjoy their meals. Overall, I got a mixed impression of that first visit. I went back this Fall for a drink with colleagues, and the waiter (extremely busy but also very friendly and patient) recommended a bellini. It was excellent. Great place for happy hour. I'm not sure I'll go back for breakfast, but for a drink with friends, certainly.

I'm not sure why this restaurant can possibly be getting so many terrible reviews. I thought maybe my first experience (in August 2007) was just a conincidence, as the service and food were both fantastic. So I decided to go back recently, with two other people - and we all again found the food and service to be top-notch. My boyfriend and I had the lamb medallions, and my friend had the Kobe meatloaf. We also shared the artichoke/spinach dip as an appetizer, and even though I don't even like spinach, I couldn't stop eating. I ordered a Bellini to drink and have never in my life enjoyed a drink so much. Delicious. The servers were quick, attentive and knowledgeable. Not sure how this place could possibly ever get a bad review??! Both time I've gone were on busy Saturday nights, too! I am recommending this place to everyone I know!

After arriving for a reserved lunch table for...

After arriving for a reserved lunch table for four, we first two arrivals were quickly seated. The hostess prepared a small table card which indicated the number of guests expected (4), and placed it on our table for the server. A server promptly arrived, then asked if anyone else would be joining us. We asked for a glass of water each, and inquired about the in-house lager, but our server didn't know about it. The second server to arrive did know, so we ordered a glass each. Our two fellow guests arrived a few minutes later, asked for water to start, and a couple of extra minutes to order. One of them had to repeat her request for water when the server came back to receive our lunch orders. One guest had only a limited amount of time for lunch, and asked for his meal to be delivered before the others. This was done without any problem. We four agreed that our meals were of average quality, but not memorable. The focaccia bread chicken sandwich was disappointing in that the bread was unimaginative in flavour, lacking any herbs, sun-dried tomatoes or extras of any kind. It's also pretty thick for a sandwich, and the filling, although tasty, wasn't enough to overcome the dryness of the thick bread. The curly fries were okay, but my overall impression was of bread and fries for lunch. The other meals were OK, although one guest who asked about the spiciness of his meal was told 'it's very spicey', and found it wasn't so. Clearing our table seemed to be a sporadic exercise, although the restaurant wasn't anywhere near full. It seemed to be more a matter of passing by and picking something up, rather than attentiveness on our server's part. Coffee proved to be hot, though not very flavourful. It was disappointing, so we skipped refills. I doubt any of us will return. Although the setting is pleasant enough, the mediocre food and somewhat inattentive service were not competitive with other restaurants in the area. There are places nearby which offer somewhat better food and service, at a better much price.

My sister and I had taken my mother to the...

My sister and I had taken my mother to the Chateau Laurier for Mother's Day weekend and decided that we would go to Milestone's for one of the dinners. Our cutlery was dirty, so we had to get it replaced. That was the least of our worries. Our food was served COLD so it was replaced. Our server came to check on us once. One of the hostesses was walking by repeatedly giving my mother really nasty looks. We all ignored it as we did not want to ruin the night. I got up to use the washroom and the same hostess was walking towards me and instead of moving to the side to wait for me to walk, she walked INTO me, without excuses herself, and kept going. When I got back to the table, the hostess was sitting in the booth behind ours and was chatting with one of the servers. The hostess continuously pointed at our table and kept whispering. Again, we ignored her. Finally as we were leaving she began to point at my mother and say something to the server. I had then had enough. My sister asked to speak with her manager and in a cocky tone said "OKAY!" her manager came and said to discuss it outside (between the two doors in the entrance), and as my sister explained what was going on, I could see the hostess mocking my sister and making fun of her to another hostess. I opened the door and said "maybe you should be discussing customers to your coworkers" and she yelled "well you can't tell me who to talk to got that ?!". The manager my sister spoke with then yelled "you're fired, go get your stuff and leave". The next day the head manager contacted my sister and said that she was not fired as the manager who we spoke with did not have the authority to fire her. The next week we get another call from the head manager saying that he had a talk with her and she was having a bad day but she did end up getting fired. I will never return to such bad service. We received attitude for no reason from someone whose salary was provided from our being there. It was insulting that the first manager fakely fired her. I suggest that no one visit milestone's if they don't want attitude, bad service, and cold food.

Me and my girlfriend went for lunch during the...

Me and my girlfriend went for lunch during the tulip festival weekend. First thing that took me off guard was that the restaurant was mostly empty even though thousands of people were walking around the Parliament area. The restaurant has a very nice and elegant feel for it. The bathrooms were also nice and clean. However the service was absolutely horrible. Long story short - our waitor didn't take our order , we had to flag a different waitress down to help us out which she brought us drinks thankfully. Our waitor eventually makes his way to our table after 20 minutes of being there and takes our order... we wait another 20 minutes and the previous waitress that we flagged down brings out our food and refills. Our waitor stops by only to drop off our bill and didn't even ask how it was. The service here was horrible, the place was dead and I saw alot of staff walking around but nobody doing anything. My sandwich & fries were very bland and very cold and as a previous poster mentioned everything tasted very pre packaged. I recommend to people to avoid this restaurant as the service , food quality and the menu is very very limited.
