I don't understand why everybodys giving this place raving reviews. Its abhorly expensive and the quality of the food is questionable. The restaurant is also very small and cramped and theres always a long wait at the door to get in. Fries are fries, their burgers while nicely dressed are very expensive as well as all their drinks. I ordered a milkshake because a coke was like 50 cents less.

The first and best of the Works chain, this...

The first and best of the Works chain, this restaurant is a gem, and makes THE BEST burgers, fries, and rings ANYWHERE. My partner and I are regulars and have restricted ourselves to one visit a month, for the safety of our waistlines. This is serious stuff here. No overcooked baseballs here - I thought burgers like these disappeared after mad-cow. Only the juiciest tender beef burgers (or chicken, veggie burg, or Portobello cap) and a selection of the most tantalizing toppings tempt your taste buds. A lunch here can last through dinner, and cravings start to develop after the first couple of visits. This is the "crack cocaine" of hamburgers. And the sides are the best anywhere. Also, try an excellent milkshake (served in a 2cup Pyrex measuring cup) to fill any gaps left (there won't be many)! The location is tiny (8-10 tables inside, about 6 on the patio in the summer), so expect a bit of a wait on busy nights. Tables turn over rapidly, so the wait is not unbearable. Burgers do take a while to cook, but are worth waiting for. In the winter, the ancient building is cold, so wear a sweater. Service keeps moving smoothly, even with a bustling takeout business. Wait staff have been here for a long time, and can take you through the ordering routine smoothly. They get to know you after a couple of visits, and remember the little details (cider vinegar for the fries, and a knife to cut her burger). Luckily, there are several other locations in Ottawa now with similar atmosphere and larger spaces, but for the true Works experience, nothing beats the original on Beechwood.

Ottawa poutine places to satisfy big cravings

Ottawa poutine places to satisfy big cravings

Perhaps best known as a burger and onion ring spot, they make a pretty mean poutine here. If you come in a big group, they put you into the cage – a separate area of the restaurant where the tables are in an enclosure made to look like a cage. I’ve been in the cage – it’s just you and your guys against the cholesterol and the fries.
