Get what you pay for!

Slow lazy service on a late weekday morning in a half empty rest. The four of us were treated to runny eggs overcooked bacon weak coffee and small portions When we complained to the elderly lady who served us,she whined about how people complain too much. We soon left, barely touching the food. Not good. Not recommended

Lunch Time Regular

When I moved to Ottawa, a friend recommended Ada's, a diner he had frequented for many years. Five us went in early January '08 and I've been there probably 3 times a week, every week, ever since. Ada, Wilf and Jaz know almost evrybody by name who come in the door. Sure it's crowded and noisy, but what a happy place to have a meal. And her soups are fantastic. When Ada knows you like a particular soup, she will offer it to you even though it's not on the menu. Talk about PR; this diner has it in spades. I often buy extra soup and take it back to the office for others to enjoy.

Don't get shafted by sitting in the hallway next to the kitchen! They not only brush past you with arms full of dishes but pretty much forget about serving you. No refills. You actually have to buy another coffee! Are you kidding me? At a diner! Prices are about $2-$3 too high compared to other places and food is lower quality and smaller portions. I think I'll walk an extra block and pay less money to have better food and as much coffee as I want.

The crowds lined up there say it all: Brunch at Ada's is an Ottawa institution. Ada and Wilf are the most charming proprietors in Ottawa and now know my whole family by name. I just wish they didn't have to work so hard!

Ada's used to be my regular breakfast place...

Ada's used to be my regular breakfast place because it was close to my house. The best part about this place is the friendly service. The food is standard greasy spoon fare and the price is reasonable but don't expect anything fantastic. The ingredients are not the best and I really object to processed cheese in omelettes. Stick to the 2 eggs, bacon and hash browns and you'll be fine. The waffles can be very good when fruit is in season.

Top spots for a cheap lunch in downtown Ottawa

Top spots for a cheap lunch in downtown Ottawa

This popular hipster diner with a sophisticated, modern, chilled-out vibe serves fantastic breakfast and brunch items. Wilf & Ada’s offers brunch classics like eggs Benedict and French toast, as well as grilled cheese selections of the day served with amazing “homies” home fries. But it’s the Hungryman option that seems to really get diners talking. It features all of the typical breakfast fixings, like eggs and bacon, along with French toast, whipped cream, and fruit compote on the side. That hefty lunch should keep you going ‘til bedtime!

Ottawa’s top-tier spots for delicious French toast

Ottawa’s top-tier spots for delicious French toast

Ottawa foodies love the idea of this made-from-scratch diner that sources many of its ingredients from local farmers and showcases Ottawa artists. Long line-ups are not uncommon on weekends as Wilf and Ada’s menu attracts regulars and newcomers year-round with revolving dishes that change according to the season’s harvest. The top-notch French toast also varies, but is usually served on house-made bread and made with buttermilk batter, fruit compote and maple syrup.

Enjoy weekend brunch in Ottawa’s Centretown

Enjoy weekend brunch in Ottawa’s Centretown

This unassuming diner looks like a typical greasy spoon from the outside, but inside you’ll find exposed-brick walls, pendant lamps and hip fare made from scratch with local ingredients. The menu features breakfast stalwarts such as French toast and eggs Benedict, but ask the regulars and you’ll learn there’s only one true choice for weekend brunch: eggs in purgatory (poached in a spicy parmesan-tomato sauce). The rich, sweet baked beans are beloved, too. Wilf and Ada’s doesn’t take reservations, so come prepared to wait.
