Hands down the best quality of ingredients and dish presentation in the area. Not pub food which is what most other eating establishments in town are. Owner and wait staff are friendly but not intrusive. It is pricey but quality costs money. Retrofit makes the small setting more comfortable. Highly recommend.

Nice ambiance , service was robotic, food heavily salted and spiced but tasty. Limited menu and I wanted lasagna which was not available Small serving of tasty bread no extras. My dish was cold. Value for money is poor to awful as I could get better for 1/3 the price many other places. I left hungry as I only got a infant sized portion of pasta. Will never go back. But at least the owner is making great margins off unsuspecting patrons Suggest unless you want a $25 child spaghetti one piece of bread no water no wine menu and in and out in half an hour ..go elsewhere

"Get out of my restaurant"

This is definitely not our top choice when dining out in Perth. Our first experience was terrible but that happens everywhere. Second experience….well needless to say we will never return! There were two other tables in the restaurant, and the server neglected our table all night. She knew absolutely NOTHING about the wine list when we asked for suggestions. A member from our party had to physically get up and ask for more water, we waited an hour and a half for our entrees. The Waitress who claimed to be an owner placed our food on the table and never returned to check on us. My wife’s chicken was so dry she was unable to eat it, FORGET sending anything back to the kitchen. Again I had to get up from the table to get the server’s attention. When we politely sent our food back to the kitchen, the arguing in kitchen (which is open concept) was unbelievable. The chef then stormed towards our table, took the plate and told us to GET OUT of his restaurant! He then refused to take the uneaten dish off of our bill. We have never been so insulted in our lives, we have been in the Perth area for thirty years and we will be sure to pass along our horrible experience at Bistro 54.

Good food - bland service

Third time at the Bistro 54. I don't know who the waitress is (the wife of the chef??) but his culinary skills had to make up for her lack of personality this time. Barely. We had decided, on a whim, on a Monday evening to go to the Bistro 54 with our party of 5. The restaurant was 3/4 full, but with only tables for 2 available, we decided to wait. We were seated and happily looking forward to a splendid meal when the waitress blew it. I asked for extra bread....I mean $0.25 worth of bread and it appeared that I asked for her firstborn child. I said the sauce on my Pasta Funghi was delectable and and extra piece of bread would be nice. The gestapo said no....they were all out or they had to heat more up or some other similar "waffle" response. I mean when we drop $200 in your restaurant, I not only expect as much bread as I want, I expect to be treated as local royalty (as everyone should). Especially in the day of online reviews. My rant over....the food was delicious as ever.

My wife and I went to Bistro 54 with another couple to celebrate a birthday. This was my first time there, (even though I am from Perth and am actually an owner of another restaurant in town.) It really is a very nice spot and they have done a great job on the decor and atmosphere. The menu is varied enough that even my wife (who doesn't eat carbs) walked away happy. It was very clean and smartly appointed. The staff was attentive and the upstairs lounge was quite comfy. We ordered a wide variety of food between all of us and shared just about everything and every single dish was nicely done. I fully recommend a stop at this restaurant while in Perth (of course after you stop at ours!) A nice addition to our beautiful heritage town. Great job folks.

Always A Treat

This is our favorite place to eat in Perth and when friends come to visit this is always where we take them. Bistro is an extremely small restaurant and the lack of reservations can be a pain but with the addition of the winebar upstairs, it is well worth the wait. If you call ahead they are usually able to give you a fairly accurate wait time. The atmosphere is amazing, with such an attention to detail. I love the fact that you can see into the kitchen - I think that says a lot about a restaurant. No matter what we order, we are always happy with our food. We love the house red! The only time I have found the service to be anything less than excellent was on a week-night, when it was unusually busy and they were obviously understaffed.

The place was recommended by friends. So we wanted to celebrate our anniversary and tried to get a reservation for. We were told to show up early which was impossible as some of our party had to work until 6:00 p.m. When we showed up there was one free table for 4 and some free chairs. But we were told it would take about 30 minutes until a table for 5 becomes free. No attempt to move another chair to the free table. Therefore we left disappointed about our ruined celebrations. We never ever will return to this place. We only had been there 3 times. The first time, the last time and never again. Wishing them only, the day will come when they will be happy to get reservations.

Wow! walked out of a cold winter night and into a cozy warm place in Italy! They were busy and took time to show us the menu and explain the food a little to us as we have a couple of allergies. We waited upstairs in a beautiful lounge for a few minutes while our table was being set.Probably not the best table in the house, but we didn't mind. The food was great...all of it! Freshly made for sure. You can see the fellows cooking right off to the side. The scallops were HUGE and perfectly med. rare. The veal didn't even need to be cut and a stunning sauce with smoked oysters will bring me back for sure! The pasta el dente and the clam sauce as good as we've tasted anywhere. The service was so friendly you would think you were in a friends home. Thank you! Perth is lucky to have you.

Bistro 54 takes no reservations which allows for walk up business as good things are worth waiting for showing up early is a good idea. The place is very popular and has a nice upscale beautifully finished bar upstairs called Christophers. We had a couple of cocktails before our table was ready. We had the garlic shrimp appetizer and the raviola main course with a nice Chianti . The shrimp was cooked just right not over done and the raviola was the best I have tasted. The serving staff recomended a nice 2002 Chianti a nice complement to the meal . The service was efficent and friendly given how popular the place is and I would rate this as one of the best dinning experiences I have had in a long time. My wife and I plan to return soon and will definetly recommend the Bistro 54 to our friends.

We waited in the unfinished upstairs lounge for 2 hours before being seated at our table. Once seated we had to wait half hour for another round of drinks and had to ask for the complimentary bread. The food itself was excellent. The wait however was unacceptable. Some attempt or offer of compensation would have been greatly appreciated.

I have enjoyed supurb dining experiences on every occasion that I have dined at Bistro 54. The service is friendly and informative, the atmosphere always makes me feel like I have left Perth and ventured to a far off European city. The food is outstanding, always. I love the simple presentation, combined with complex flavours. This is a definate dining favorite for our family, and we go as often as we can!

We had a wonderful time at this restaurant from start to finish. Having heard that they don't take reservations (and many restaurants don't these days), we arrived early (around 5:15) and had no trouble being seated. My father is in a wheelchair and the restaurant staff graciously allowed us to use the back entrance for easier access and assisted us in getting him up the few steps. Our dining experience was very enjoyable. Starting with fresh baked bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar while we waited for appetizers of brusketta and caesar salad, both excellent. Our main courses (veal milanese, spaghettia with clams, & spaghetti with meatballs) were elegantly presented and of good portion size. We all enjoyed our meals tremendously. I don't understand the previous reviewer's complaint that it is only the house wines that are served by the glass. Isn't that standard in most restaurants? I've dined in restaurants in New York and London and Bistro 54 can hold its own in comparison. I would go back there anytime and highly recommend it to anyone wanting an excellent dining experience.

For openers, Bistro 54 does not take reservations...

For openers, Bistro 54 does not take reservations (or, at least, didn't on the Saturday night we wre there). We were advised to arrive early -- we got there at 6:15 pm) and were seated at the only available table -- a large round one that could accommodate six. Not terribly intimate for the three of us. Once seated, we waited one hour and fifteen minutes for our dinners to be served. Upon arrival, the food was, at best, lackluster and decidedly overpriced. (e.g., gorgonzola chicken dish consisted of one medium and one small piece of chicken, somewhat undercooked, served on a bed of (admittedly al dente) spaghetti. Flavour was good but the dish was nothing spectacular and at $21, very poor value. Moving on, wine list is ok but only the house wines (standard Italian red and white table wines) are available by the glass. We had to ask for water and then there was apparent confusion re the order as only one glass of water was delivered. Our server never offered to refill it. The tab came to pennies over $100 (including a tip commensurate with the service). For a town of its size, Perth boasts a number of very good restaurants but, based on our Thanksgiving weekend experience, Bistro 54 isn't one of them.
