Great Food - Great service!

I've eaten in Many South Asian restaurants over the years, having lived in Vancouver and Toronto. This is one of the best South Asian restaurants, and definitely in my top 3 that I've eaten in (out of poss. 10-15). Their Chicken Korma is the best I've ever had, & other dishes worth mentioning is veggie curry, and their madras (chicken). Their lamb curry is also excellent. They use fresh ingredients, and you might pay a little more then say a "buffet" style in Toronto (ie 10.99 for all you can eat), but here's why : the chicken for example is white meat/chicken breast. That means a Big difference in costs, where many buffet style places & other cheap eats, ie in Toronto may use thighs etc. Know when you are comparing apples to apples. Staff are friendly and helpful! Highly recommend this place. Good, reasonable lunch specials during the week from 7.99 (veggie curry). Enjoy!

I wish I lived closer!

As mentioned in the title, I wish I lived closer! My Nana had some business in Peterborough, so we decided to go together and grab a bite to eat. Our server was very friendly and explained anything we asked about (granted, there were only two of us in the restaurant...middle of the week, around 1:30). She brought us free soup (mulligatawny, I believe) as well as free mango chutney. They even made my Nana a salty lassi despite it not being on the menu. Everything was DELICIOUS and we left very full. Unfortunately, we didn't have room for dessert. The only negative was the location. They did a good job making it feel nice with hung saris and linen napkins, but it is one of the restaurants that are partially underground, which ruins it for people who love people watching at a window. I would definitely visit again if I am in the area.

good food

I really like eating here- I have found it better to order off the menu than to purchase the "Dinner for Two" which seems to be the Indian version of Chicken Balls and Fried Rice. The only problem is that the servers could be a little more attentive- clearing plates & water refills would be nice. The meals are a little pricey so one expects a little more customer service.

A guy there needs to be fired

We've had three experiences with this restaurant, the first two were good, but the third was a fiasco. We dined in once, the food was good, and the service was friendly. The only problem was the fact they charge you $1 for one piece of naan. I've been to several Indian restaurants and normally they'll give you a basket of naan for that price. We ordered out twice. The first time was great, the guy on the phone was very friendly. The second time was bizarre. We ordered mattar paneer and butter chicken and they gave us something completely different (forget what it was, but it was not what we ordered; wrong colour, wrong taste). So, I called the man back and asked for a real order, and he told me I was lying and that the order was correct. I argued with him for a while, only after I told him that I'd made mattar paneer myself and I'm Indian did he accept that the order was wrong. Then he tried to convince me to be sastisfied with the wrong order. Finally after a good 10 minutes he agreed to send us our original order, but demanded we return the misplaced curries. I don't want to write off this restaurant cause of one bad worker, but he was unbelievable. If we order again I hope that guy isn't there.

Nice!

5 of us went for lunch. I was surprised that the restaurantt had cloth tableclothes and napkins. Very nice for lunch! We all ordered lunch specials which came with soup, salad and rice. We also ordered 3 orders of samosas and nam to share. Food was all very good. Service was good.

Not Traditional Indian Food

We ordered the Butter Chicken, Beef Curry & Plain Nan Bread. The butter chicken was very sweet, it had too much coconut in it and it the sauce was white, which Butter Chicken is not supposed to be white. It's supposed to be in a tomato based sauce. The beef curry was very bland and the boiled rice to go with each dish was overcooked; very sticky and starchy. All together is was nearly $40 and most of it ended up in the garbage.

My Favourite restaurant in town the food is phenomenal the dishes all compliment themselves wonderfully and are some of the best I've ever tasted full of flavour, The atmosphere is exotic and interesting and the music gives the place a great feel. The service has always been good and the servers are friendly and attentive. The prices are fair as you get lots of food and it is VERY good. Highly recommended!

The service was fantastic. The server was very attentive and friendly. The food was pretty good, though it was milder than I'd hoped. I didn't care for the rice (being dry and rather bland) but the Naan was fantastic. The only real negative is the atmosphere. The decor is dated. The furniture is old and has seen better days, and the table cloths and fabric chairs could have been cleaner.

We have been ordering out from this restaurant...

We have been ordering out from this restaurant for over 4 years - it is the best Indian Restaurant in the Kawarthas. The dhansak is sweet hot like no other - the butter chicken is a benchmark butter chicken to measure against any other that I have had. The Lamb Korma is the best sweet treatment of Lamb that I have ever had. I would reccomend this to anyone who loves Curry or is in the mood to try something different.

Our favourite restaurant

We love Curry Village. Although everything is very tasty, we always order the same thing because we can't stand the thought of missing out on any of our favourites. We order a lot so we have leftovers for the next day's lunch. We have eaten at many Curry houses, from London England to Ottawa to Toronto, and Curry Village is still number ONE with us! The only downside is the odd musical choices and the less than stellar decor, but the food is great!!

This is by far the best Indian food restaurant I have been to. I have searched far and wide for a comparable butter chicken, but this sweet and creamy version only exists at Curry Village. Other Indian cuisine restaurants I find all their dishes taste very similar with varying degrees of mild-hot spice. At Curry Village I find all the plates different and so pleasing.

This is a wonderful restaurant. I live in Toronto, but every time I come to visit family in Peterborough, I have to eat here. The wait staff are friendly, engage me in conversation, and offer helpful suggestions. The food is incredible, spicy but not burn-your-mouth-off hot. I never miss a chance to eat here.

Kids were gone so, we went out for diner. I felt the food was excellent. Very flavourful and rich. I love FLAVOURFUL hot foods but not stuff that is hot just for the sake of making you sweat (and usually rather grim tasting). This food was extremely tasty. Even the buttered chicken. This was, however, our first experience in an Indian restaurant. The restaurant was not busy on a Wednesday night but there was a constant flow with at least three tables in the dining room and several people collecting take out. I can however concur with the table cloths being rather stained. Overall, the restaurant appeared neet and clean though. Also, the waiter did not offer any drinks either. Is this a cultural thing? I'm not sure I would order a drink anyway. The selection behind the bar appeared rather sparse and how long would the specific drink have been there? Overall, the food was excellent and the service good.

Appetizers were good (especially the soups). The Butter Chicken was pale blonde and tasted nothing at all like butter chicken (and this is a dish we order frequently and in many indian restaurants). The other "mains" were just ok. We were not offered an opportunity to order drinks, so we didn't bother. The table cloth at our table (and several others) was badly stained and being a light colour, the stains were very evident. We accidentally added a few splatters also when serving our plates and I noticed the table was prepped for the next sitting by the time we reached the door with the even more stained table cloth still in place, fresh cutlery on the top. Based on the disregard for hygiene in the dining room, I would avoid eating in this restaurant again.

This is a mediocre Indian restaurant. Food is okay, relying mostly on salt and oil for flavour. If you've ever eaten in Toronto or Brampton (or India for that matter) and expect the same, you'll be a bit disappointed. That being said, the food is still tasty enough. However it is definitely not cheap, especially for the quality. But your choices in town are limited to 3 indian restaurants that might as well all be the same one.
