SATURDAY MARCH 12 BUFFET

This place is not a THAI restaurant! At least not what was reflected in their menu choice for their attempt at a buffet. They attempted to draw a crowd by offering a buffet to fill their seats. Great concept! Bad execution. They should have served up their best THAI cuisine so that people would talk and tell their friends how great it was. Not cheap out and try to save money by serving up their cheapest meals. What a disappointment! Save your money go elseware! Check other review sites and see!

Not authentic Thai

I have eaten at over 100 different Thai restaurants and this is easily one of the worst. The food does not even resemble authentic Thai cuisine. The Pad Thai, to take an example of a dish that is ubiquitously served but so seldom mastered, tastes like it was laced with plum sauce for egg rolls from some Canadian Chinese restaurant. Still looking for great Asian cuisine in Peterborough.

Over-priced, average

The food was okay, ingredients were fresh but the flavours were bland. The prices were higher than expected based on other similar reestaurants in the area, and the need to pay for rice and other sides in addition to the main elevated the prices to an unacceptable level. The atmosphere was well below average, no effort put into decor. When I eat out, I want something that is better than I could make (which is not a very difficult acheivement - beleive me). Village of Thai did not pass this test. I would not recommend.

What a sad day- revamped menu

The Village of Thai is our go to thai place in Peterborough. However, they have redone their menu. Prices are now $1 more per item. AND for the meals that we used to Love.... the dropped the price by $1 BUT you now have to buy the rice and the salad seperately (where it was included before). Rice is $2.95 minium and there is no small side salad option on the menu (so your looking at $7 + for a salad). THis applies to dishes such as the curry, butter chicken, etc. The reason we loved this place was because of the well rounded meal (with rice and salad included) that it offered. Now, its far more expensive to go here and you don't get as much variety. I could handle a price increase- but breaking up the dishes like that...really???? so sad.....

I Love This Place!

From the front it doesn't look like much, it's small, a little tacky and a little plain. Don't make the mistake of passing this place over because of this! I have been here several times over the last few years, gotten take out, gone with family, friends and co-workers and I've always had a great experience and great food. My favourite is the Butter Chicken...Mmmm Butter Chicken! Huge portions and fair prices also help (doggie bags anyone?). Though it has nothing to do with the food, an essential part of the experience is a trip downstairs to the bathroom (womens, I don't know about the mens), hopefully you aren't too tall!

Don't waste your money or time

This is the worst dining experience that I have ever had... I have had a lot of Thai food before, and this was not even Thai... I ordered a curry dish... and it was as if it was made by a 5 year old. It was not curry, it was like a lame attempt at a fish sauce or really bad tomato sauce ... the rice was not properly cooked and the "samosas" were awful too... i mean, if you're gonna call yourself a Thai restaurant and put Indian Samosas on the menu, at least make sure they are actually samosas- I don't know WHAT those were... both us barely finished our meals. This place should be closed down at worst, re-named and not adverstised as Thai at best.

Very Pleasantly Surprised

The restaurant atmosphere wasn't amazing, and to be honest I wasn't expecting amazing amazing food. But let me tell you that I was very pleasantly surprised. We were the only people in the restaurant on a Saturday at 1pm. Pakoras were delicious and crispy and a little spicy and just perfect. I had the butter chicken and it was very good. Lots of meat and the rice was good and the salad had fresh mango and was very delicious. I will definitely be back. Food arrived prompt and the server was very polite.

Great Food

Wagjag was offering a $20 coupon for $10 so based on the reviews here we gave it a try. We went early -- 5:00 on a Friday after work. The menu was not what we expected. It was a mix of Thai and Indian food. Service was quick and friendly. Decor is pretty plain. Food was great. Mind you, the pad thai was very different than any I've had before but the taste was great. Hubby really enjoyed his steak stirfry. We shared an order of spring rolls -- 4 large spring rolls. Large servings.

Will return

Visited on our regular Friday night dinner outing , arrived relativly early 5:30 and place was empty, not for long in a :30 min period they had 5 pickup tak out order and the small restaurant filled about 6pm. All but 2 tables were full. We started with apps. pakora and spring rolls , very delicious and crispy, pakora was crispy outside and soft and spiced just right inside. Our meals arrived ( beef stirfry and satay chicken.) great prtion sizes and fantastic flavours. just the right amount of spice- i could go spicer but the balance was perfect not to destroy the meal. Dessert was less delightful, we didnt finish it but we tried, not needed as meal was plenty , but wanted to try. Servers were fine, could use a little more server skills but was adequate. Decore pretty simple and seating a little tigth as restaurant filled but that should never diswade you from a great meal. Facilities were a little lack luster and in basement so not wheelchair accessable. Overall a fantastic experiance. And the pack restaurant and nonstop takeout just shows quality of food.

I go back for takeout ALL the time

It was small, with a few people, boring atmosphere.. but it's a small and new independantly owned and operated business, what do you expect? BUt omg, do they know how to make food! Everything was just amazing! You can choose how spicy you want it and wow! I loved it! Plenty to chose from and you can't get it all down in one sitting.. you will need to get it doggy-bagged my friend! It's 10lbs of amazingness!
