One of my favorites in Durham :) There is nothing bad that I can say about this place it's a hidden Gem !! The soup is my personal favorite seafood or just the spicy vegetable it's comfort food at it's best
The place was nice and food was good. We ordered garlic chicken, basil beef and shrimp rolls. Shrimp rolls were a lot better than the mini veg ones you get with the meal. No complaints, service was good, and we are happy with our meal.
The food is good especially for the price. You will surely enjoy the food. I am still not used to the timings. It's Thai & Malay at it's BEST.
Lots of selection, a few vegetarian and vegan options.
Fast service, amazing food, generous quantities, incredible flavours, lots of variety! Can't say enough good about this place. They also have awesome lunch specials, very reasonably priced!
This is the place that started my love affair with Thai food. An introduction by a couple of colleagues when I moved to Toronto in 2006, and I thank them everyday for it. Food here is incredible, reasonably priced and ... did I say incredible. Only challenge is that it is small, they only have 10-12 tables so during lunch/dinner rushes can be hard to get a seat. They have take-out which is always an option.
So the Shrimp Spring rolls... little did I know have had CHICKEN in them this whole time. I'm a partial vegetarian and all I eat in the meat dept. is fish so I order shrimp rolls. There is no mention of the tiny cut up chicken in the rolls on the menu and when I asked the cashier responded: "The menu is too small to fit every ingredient"... well you think listed CHICKEN would be more useful than listing CORIANDER and CARROTS...
We've visited Red House a couple of times and I've ordered take out on a couple of occasions, but the last time I was there I ordered two items (soup & Tamarind chicken). The cashier said it would take 15 to 20 minutes. 35 minutes later I had to ask if my food would be ready anytime soon (the restaurant wasn't packed, so there was no reason for the delay). The tamarind chicken was okay, but there was hardly any there (the container was filled maybe halfway), and I found it overpriced at $8.00. The soup, which is the reason I still go there, was good, but now they even charge $.50 for the take out container. I've never seen a restaurant charge for containers when you order take out. They have a sign saying there's a 10% discount on cash orders, which they didn't honour, and they didn't give me the bill, until I asked for it. All these things, plus the poor service, really disappointed me; plus I don't think the food is as good as it was when I first visited this restaurant in the past, so I don't think I'll be coming back (love the soup, though, but charging for take out containers is just a no-no in my book).
FABULOUS!!!!! AMAZING FOOD! Packed every night....I usually wait 1hr or more for PICK UP and its so worth it. That is how in demand this place is!
i love going here because it's so delicious. and because of that it's ALWAYS busy and has continual take-out traffic. unfortunately, that makes the servers a little less attentive and the kitchen a little slower. if you're going for dinner, be sure to make a reservation.
We love this place, and the luncheon specials are amazing. For less than $10. you get spring rolls, a drink and a main course such as great chicken cashew curry. We go back at least once a month. Their lemongrass shrimp soup is absolutely fabulous!
I believe that Red House Restaurant is an amaizing Place to visit, any time my husband, daugther and myself visit the food has been excellent as well as the service. We love the ginger tea. I'll recommned you make reservations because the place is very small. Thank goodness have not found any unpected things!! in the food in fact I will be going on June 19th to celebrate a B-Day and I am taking two friends for the first time. I am sure it would be wonderful as usual.
After frequenting the Red House since it opened with my significant other, I must sadly say that this restaurant is a far cry from it's wonderful inception. The food is always tasty, so that's not the problem. The problems are the proportions and presentation. Simply put, the orders have decreased in size by about 25%, and that's no exageration. From opening night (I was there), until now, the prices remain constant however the sizes have gone down. Once again, though, this is of little concern. My main problem is that there was a HUGE fly sitting atop my white rice that is to go with the cashew chicken. I asked for my money back (I'm a little turned off lunch at this point), but they refused. They offered to replace my rice with coconut rice (with cashew chicken? yuck!). No thank you. I ask for maybe a complementary spring roll. They laugh. I don't. As one who frequents restaurants and who occasionally gets a fly or a hair in my food, I know that the very least they can do is offer me some extras (a drink or dessert would be nice). In fact, every other time I have had a complaint (which is exactly 3 times), the actual chef or owner came out with food in hand to appologize. In the end the Red House brought out sticky, strarchy rice noodles to go with the meal that was already getting cold. When I said it was cold, the waitress actually put her finger in it and said "It is still good". Once again, yuck! I don't know if they're just used to seeing my face and my money, but I can guarantee them neither in the future.
The food is amazing as well as the service. We loved it so much that we go there all the time. Luch time is always packed so if your thinking of going be sure to call ahead.
This is by far the best thai restaurant out there. It could easily compete with the top thai restuarants in Toronto and probably win. The food is all freshly made with lots of wholesome vegetables. The portions are large, so be prepared to bring some home with you. It's always been very busy when we've dined there, so your best bet is to make a reservation. Excellent, excellent food.
Have eaten in, and ordered out quite a few times now and tried many menu items. We are impressed every time and have not yet tried anything we didn't devour. Have been to many Thai restaurants downtown Toronto and non of them have met the quality of food and service of Red House.
The food is amazing. My favourite is the Pad Thai. I have had many different Thai restaurant experiences in Toronto, and this is by far the best tasting, best value with the most pleasant staff. I have had take out to order in no more than 15 mins. I can always know that I will have a delicious, hot, spiced to my order meal at Red House!
On several occasions I have had three different menus, each very satisfying and incredibly enjoyable. Nothing in my meal experience was negative; however the service could be a little more vigilante and drinks are non-refillable, there was nothing else I did not enjoy.
I order the pad Thai every time I go and it is the best I have ever tasted. I have tried different pad Thais from many restaurants (which have all been more expensive than Red house) and they do not compare. The service was fast and friendly. So stop reading reviews and head over to red house, you will not be disappointed.
We are going there tonight again, we drive there all the way from Peterborough just for the Green Chicken Curry. It is amazing!!!
