small place but great

ive lived in richmond hill all my life. my family and i decided to eat at a local restaurant, we saw this place and decided to give it a shot we walked in and saw very nice decorations, the waiter was very nice in greeting us and everything looked good from the door to our seats. we ordered some french onion soup, the fried calamari and a Caesar salad to start off. those didnt take too long and they were amazing. i ordered the the Wiener Schnitzel, while the rest of my family had the different pastas. the main course came just a few minutes after we finished our starters which was perfect because we couldnt stop eating because it was so good. my veal was fired just right and the amount of veggie side was just right. From what i heard from the rest of the family, they all loved the pasta and had no problems with them. Finally we had dessert. i had a coffee, parents had an cappuccino each and younger brother had a piece of cake. it was the perfect end to a great night. the price was worth the food, so if you are ever in town, give it chance because i loved it from start to end.

Definitely not a French Cafe!

If you are looking for a touch of France and that nice French coffee, you are warned not to stop here. I took my mother for Mother's Day and was totally disappointed. The coffee was the worst coffees we ever had - the cappuccino tasted like typical coffee shop coffee and the espresso was horrible - no foam, strange colour. When we asked the owner why there was no foam on the espresso, he was rather rude, he took the cup and literally threw it on the tray of the closest waitress. He came back, 2 minutes later, with what must have been a 'suggestion' of foam. What was also totally shocking is the price of an espresso: $4.95 - where in the city do you pay that much for an espresso??

I have been to the Cafe twice now and was initially recommended from a friend of mine. The first experience was delightful. The service was great along with the atmosphere. We ordered calamari to start (which was a generous portion) and then continued on to Rack of Lamb and a New York Steak which was very well presented except I found the rice to be very bland. Topped off with a strawberry crepe was a little disappointing as it read "fresh strawberries" but you could easily tell they were not fresh. Little disappointed but decided to return again. The first time we visited, we were lucky to get a table at the front by the window but since we did not make a reservation, we were seated a little closer to the back which was fine, however, I was shocked to hear our waitress mumbling to herself using profanity while she was preparing coffees behind the bar. She was "on edge" to say the least and seemed rushed and very unprofessional. She slammed our appetizer down on the table and walked away. My wife and I felt so uncomfortable that I didnt even want to ask her for more water. The real kicker is when we had finished our meals, I of course, did not enjoy mine as much, she asked us "want me to doggie that food up for yah"? I thought to myself, who talks like that in this type of restaurant? Not sure if we would return again. Restaurant needs to look at the professionalism and class of staff.

An amazing little resturant in the heart of...

An amazing little resturant in the heart of Richmond Hill. The food is delightful, and prepared accoring to traditional French cuisine. One of my favourite resturants to take a date on. My one criticism is the steak. It tastes absolutely wonderful, but is a vary small portion for the twenty-something dollars you pay. Unless you have a small stomach, I would avoid the steak, and order another wonderful entree.

Going Back Again

We have been to Cafe en Passant on several occassions and we ALWAYS enjoy our dinner. The staff is warm, friendly and knowledgable. The chef has come to our table and chatted with us. Servings are large and arrive attractively arranged on the plates. My only criticism is the wine list. I would like to be offered more variety by the glass. A wonderful experience every time.
