I’ve come to frequently visit Milestones, Scarborough. The staff and food are phenomenal. Got greeted by this young man, Harvey as I walked in. The man actually opened the door for me..So chill. Want to also give a special shout out to a couple servers that have been at the top of their game serving myself and everyone else, John and Jason. #respect. Would definitely recomment this place to everyone that comes through Scarbourgh Town Centre.
First and foremost, this is my favourite restaurant! I think the food is to die for - particularly the "portobello mushroom chicken" (substitute the capellini noodles for garlic mashed potatoes) and the "cajun shrimp diane." Personally, I find the appetizers over-priced for the quantity of food you actually get so my boyfriend and I skip the apps and just order entrees. I've been to this location many times and have always had exceptional service and OUTSTANDING meals except for two bad experiences.
The first really was terrible: We were seated in the lounge/bar area because the dining room was completely full. My boyfriend and I are usually very passive and understanding, but this was just awful. Given, it was exceptionally busy that night, our server took 20 minutes to come to our table and greet us and our drinks were brought to our table by another server maybe 10 minutes after that. We ordered our food right away and it took 50 - 55 minutes to arrive. Our server didn't come to our table while we were waiting for our food nor did she check on us/our meals once while we were eating.
The second time was recent (Oct 13, 2011): It was fairly busy - our server was slow and our meals were even slower coming out. Worse, our server didn't really seem to care about it and her "quality check" on our meal to see if everything was ok was literally "is everything ok?" After waiting 40 minutes for my food, my side of asparagus and baby tomatoes were freezing, but I didn't want to complain and send it back so I said yes and continued to eat because I was starving. Then when she told us about the survey to complete to get a free appetizer, it was like she knew she didn't do a great job with us so she almost tried to defend why her service was so bad. Then she proceeded to tell us if we rated the restaurant a 5, the restaurant would get a point, which I felt was pretty inappropriate...
Minus those two experiences, the restaurant and the food are AMAZING. Just go on a slower night, I guess.
After a very good first experience we returned to milestones last Friday for dinner. The Caesar salad contained a large piece of the end of the lettuce and a slimy looking garnish - some kind of meat I think. The steak was delicious, but for $27 I expected a larger serving. It looked like a 4 ounce piece. The portabella mushroom came in small chunks, where on our previous visit it was in one piece. The strawberry shortcake dessert was sub par for $9 dessert. Maybe the regular cooks were away for the long weekend and that accounted for the difference between last weeks and this weeks quality.
Went to Milestone's last evening and had a great meal. Prompt service, friendly, attentive and informative. The chicken and cucumber appetizer was excellent. Just enough heat, a great sauce and all three of us enjoyed it. My son had the steak with three sauces. It must have been good, because he didn't share it, but commented on it often. My wife ordered the Chicken and Mushroom in wine sauce. Very strong and good flavour, and the pasta set it off nicely. I had the Pan seared scallops with curry, which was very good. The only complaint is the level of noise in the restaurant when it is full. But all in all a great meal. We will visit again.
Have eaten here often and never had a bad meal. The Prime Rib is Awesome. My dh had it and when I told the waitress I only like the fatty part she bought me a piece on a side plate to enjoy! Yummy!
